COURAGE

I embarked upon this journey

On a cold and dreary night

Guided through the darkness

By the glow of pale moonlight

.

Delving deeper in the forest

I felt so much alone

The wind began to swirl and wail

And it chilled me to the bone

.

Somewhere in the darkness

A wolf began to howl

And just a moment later

I heard the screeching of an owl

.

With these elements around me

My heart began to pound

Was it the shadows of the forest

Or the ominous nighttime sound?

.

I proceeded on with caution

But like the wrath of hell unleashed

The wolf had snuck up on me

And gnashed his bloody teeth

.

I began to tremble

Like I never had before

I had lost my courage

And it cut me to the core

.

Safety comes in numbers

But I was quite alone

Was it time for me to die

Or make it on my own?

.

I was at a crossroads

It was time to set my site

To let the world devour me

Or would I stand and fight?

.

Then a voice from deep inside of me

Whispered “do not be afraid’

Let your courage be your armor

And your voice will be your blade

.

I pulled myself onto my feet

And looked the devil in the eyes

Raised my arms and filled my lungs

To amplify my size

.

Adrenaline took over

This now was my domain

I found the faith within myself

And my enemy had been slain

.

With my fears behind me

I finished out the night

And waited for the sun to rise

And finally bring me light

.

I watched the night turn into day

As the sun lit up the sky

I felt a jolt of bewilderment

As tears formed in my eyes

.

Why now am I crying?

For I stood up to my foe……..

I found what I had thought I’d lost
