Cover songs that make you forget about the original

At this year's Coachella music festival, headliner Prince (that little eccentric guy), did a cover of Radiohead's famous alterna-hit, "Creep." Like all good things in this day and age, the video made it to YouTube, except Prince's record label blocked it from being viewed due to copyright laws. In response, Radiohead singer Thom Yorke said: "Well, tell him to unblock it. It's our ... song."

Unfortunately, Prince's cover of "Creep," may never be seen, but here are ten well-known songs that have been wonderfully covered. Some you'll know like Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," others might be a surprise, like punk rocker Ted Leo's version of Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone." Enjoy!

10. "My Way," Sid Vicious (Frank Sinatra)

9. "Bizarre Love Triangle," Frente (New Order)

8. "Superstar," Sonic Youth (The Carpenters)

7. "Since U Been Gone," Ted Leo (Kelly Clarkson)

6. "Satisfaction," Cat Power (Rolling Stones)

5. "Hurt," Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails)

4. "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston (Dolly Parton)

3. "Respect," Aretha Franklin (Otis Redding)

2. "Hallejujah," Jeff Buckley (Leonard Cohen)

1. "Nothing Compares 2 U," Sinead O'Connor (Prince)

this made my day. I am a HUGE fan of GOOD covers. I am extremely disappointed to hear about the Radiohead thing! Radiohead is one of my very favorite bands and Prince just has a wonderful voice. Another really good cover of "Creep" is done by Damien Rice, probably my favorite cover so far. You should check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6uyZ4jKTdg

Everyone should check out Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies.

    They do great covers!

Might be a little too loud or fast for some, but they cover all Genre's.

    Good Times!

I have to say, this made my day, too.

    These covers are super fantastic.

    FANTASTIC post.

Can we please see more of these instead of freakin Paris or Britany??!!

We need - and crave - substance!!

    JOSIE.

I'm sorry, but this list has no credibilty. Any list of covers that doesn't include "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by the Vanilla Fudge is skewered. Second, Sinead O'Connor should not even be on the list. The no-talent imbecile ripped up a picture of the Popo on SNL just to get attention. She should be spat upon; not honored or remembered.

Sorry for the typo. In the above message "Popo" should be "Pope."

I am a working solo musician so, I have some strong opinions in this area.

I do about 1500 covers so I'm judged several times a week by many.

First: I would like to say you like what you like and that's o.k. if it makes you happy!

Second I'll give you my opinions as I see them.

Cheryl Crowe- "First cut is the deepest" ala Rod Stewart written by Cat Stevens good

Cheryl Crowe doing Metallica Please kill me

Dixie Chicks "Landslide" ala Stevie Nicks pretty good

Kid Rock " Feel Like Makin Love" ala Bad Company Should be whipped

Whoever it was "Behind Blue Eyes" ala The Who Clean but, weak vocals

Rob Zombie "Brick House" ala Commodores Fun, You must Hear It !

Covers are the life blood of most working musicians . Unless its an improvement on the original

(please ask 1000 people your not paying) just don't record it.

If you already have a major label , write your own stuff so i can cover it later :)

    Peace
