My coworker has come down with something pretty nasty and
instead of taking a day off, he comes to work and shares his sickly
find with the office. "Gee, thanks" I
think, "Can I get some fries with that?"
So he sits in the cubicle facing me and I’d say he
covers his mouth to cough about 60 percent of the
time. Perhaps he’s too busy typing to tear
himself away from work long enough to be kind enough to cover his
mouth.
The cubicle wall is only up to our chins so the wind and
sheer force of his cough slaps me in the face.
Not only is enough to make me gag, but I sit there holding my
breath when he starts into a coughing fit. Then
I reach for something under my desk, or turn around, to shield my
face from it.
Now I just warmed up some food to eat at my desk and as
soon as I started to eat, he hacked up another yummy one over the
cubicle wall. It’s like a bad game of tennis and
my food is now covered in his nasty germs. I
give him the evil eye and he just doesn’t get
it.

Report AbuseThat is just rude of him. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done if you don't want to speak up for yourself. You don't have to have a heart to heart. You could do it indirectly like when he coughs say...EEW! or disgusting!! You can even say "Incoming!!" or "Here we go again!" If he says..."What?" like he doesn't know just tell him "you would appreciate it if he kept his germs to himself." This doesn't have to be a contentious conversation, just express yourself.

Report AbuseWhy don't you ask him nicely to cover his mouth at all times while he is here at work. That it is unfortunately coming into your area and is now affecting your work performance and the cleanliness of your area. Or suggest for him to stay home and maybe pick up one, or part of his work, that he might be on a deadline for.
