Curiosity killed the Tiger?

Okay, so I was curious as to what my Chinese Horoscope is, right?  Not sure what animal I am, so I plugged in my birthdate 02/01/1975 and it comes up with Tiger.  If you look at the years of the Tiger, it lists 1974.  I wasn't born in '74.  How can I be a Tiger?
I look up Rabbit and lo & behold, there's 1975.

I don't get it.  If the Chinese Horoscope is based on the year of your birth, how am I a Tiger?

Anyone?

Every 12 (11?) years it repeats. So people in 1975 would be tigers, and so would people born 12 (11?) years later.

An Asian co-worker of mine states the Chinese calender begins anew in Feb. I myself am under the year of the Tiger 1974.
