Did Michael Phelps actually win 8 medals?

Did Michael Phelps touch the wall first in the 100 meter butterfly? Or did his sponsor cheat? Usually when an athlete is accused of cheating, it's a doping issue. But in Michael Phelps' case, there may be something else going on.
Here's the deal, as reported in the New York Times:
The race in which Phelps won his seventh medal, tying Mark Spitz and setting him up to break the record for most gold at one Olympic Games, was decided by 1/100th of a second. Despite some "controversy" (that's what the article says; I don't recall hearing anything about this when it happened) over the results of the 100-meter butterfly, the authority that oversees swimming (FINA) decided not to release video images to help "prove" that Phelps was the winner.
Personally, I think this is much ado about nothing, especially since there were clearly more discrepancies in the judging for the Gymnastics (not to mention that whole, you know, age thing.) Read more here.

I don't really care if he touched the wall or not, you have to give it up to the guy he's like a freak of nature and he worked really hard. On the topic of the gymnastics judging I was appaled at the scores that were given to the Chinese and not to the U.S. when many times you could clearly see that the U.S gymnasits had cleaner rutines. I just don't get it.

sk33t3r_girl, I only hope that the rest of America does not think like you because, with a comment like that it is clear that you are not mature.

The world saw that the other guy Spitz touched the wall before Phelps, his hands were on the wall and they did not pick up that he touched the wall first. What if Spitz had protested and took it further? What would be the outcome of that? Don't you think that all the athletes representing their countries have worked their asses off to be where they are today?

The Chinese gymnastic team, did their best and had fewer mishaps than the U.S. team.

The Chinese are now under investigation for presenting underaged gymnasts at the games. Did you know that this is common practice in this sport. The U.S. dominated the sport in the past with under aged athletes. That Russian coach (can't remember his name) he should know something about sending underaged girls to these events as he was guilty of the same thing back then. However, nothing was done about it.

All the athletes at these games have worked very hard and are proud to represent their respective countries. Don't player hate, be thankful that the U.S. team went and did their best in.

I hope you get it now.
