...as President Obama started speaking about students asking questions and not being afraid of seeking help, my eyes actually welled up with tears.
Why be so emotional over that? Because it REALLY DID hit home for my home. My oldest is a 'perfectionist'. If she doesn't know right off the bat, or can't get a correct answer the first time, she gets upset with herself.
She is scared to ask for help or to ask the teacher a question. Why? Because in HER mind, she think that the teacher will see her as stupid and might even get MAD at my child for asking a question.
In all honesty, I had lost count as to how many times that I have told her that this is why teachers are there at school. To teach you the things you will need to know for your future career choice. To help ANSWER QUESTIONS that you might have. And to HELP YOU when you need it if you are stuck on something.
Really. What a fuss that was made over President Obama's Address to the students of our country.
For those of you that REFUSED to watch and/or read the speech, you MISSED OUT! As did your children.
You all should be ashamed of yourselves, those of you that pulled your children out of school for a WHOLE day, because of a small speech that lasted no more than twenty minutes.
And for your information, there was NO Political propaganda thrown in. Nor was there any "subliminal messages" thrown in.
As a matter of fact, the man KEPT HIS WORD and kept the speech to addressing the students and their responsibilities as students and of the expectations to stay in school and do the VERY BEST to their potential.
When my children come home, I will be talking with them about what the President had spoken of and we will once again, see the importance of a good education and doing your very best
