Famous kids whose parents suck

Child stars are notorious for not just growing up, but also screwing in the spotlight, but we can’t help but notice a new breed of famous kids. A career driven, press hungry pack of stars who are compensating for the lack of proper love, care and attention of their parents. Often times their parents (ahem Dina and Michael Lohan) may be craving the spotlight themselves, or acting as managers forcing them to keep working when they clearly need a break (a la Jessica Simpson).

With an overbearing acts-too-young-for-her-age mother and a will-sell-out-anyone-for-publicity father, it’s a miracle Lindsay Lohan and her sister Ali are as well off as they are. Sure, Lindsay did date around like it was her job and go to rehab, but now she’s filming episodes of “Ugly Betty” and has a steady girlfriend. Her father Michael, however, happily runs to tabloids to mouth off about his disproval of her newly-lesbian ways, trashes girlfriend Samantha Ronson and says she’s mooching off Lindsay’s fame. And we wish it were the first time he’s pulled a stunt like this.

Taking the high(er) road, Lindsay took to her MySpace blog, and typed a rather mature responses, discussing how she feels “betrayed” by her father, that “he has no idea what is going on in my life because I have chosen not to involve him in it” and that he’s “addicted to fame.”

Meanwhile over in Duff land, Hilary’s dad was just thrown in jail for refusing to pay his half of Hilary's upcoming 21st birthday (older sister Haylie's bash and present cost $25,000). "I know he's a millionaire, and he's got the funds," said Hilary’s mom Susan. In her court testimony she added that Hilary was "emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father," and a judge ruled that he had to give her $12,500 for the party.

Combine this with the recent domestic abuse charges amongst “Heroes” star Hayden Panettiere’s parents, Jessica Simpson’s overbearing and pervy father and Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears’ notably absent and unhelpful mother and you’ve got a stockpile of unprofessional stage parents. And where is Billy Ray when Miley Cyrus is sending scantily clad cell phone pictures?

Is there any young starlet who actually has moral, reliable parents? [US Weekly][People]

You know, that's a good question, what is up with some celebrity children's parents?

Certainly being in the spotlight just exaggerrates(sp) everything, however, one could probably make the assumption that the limelight is probably having even more of a dizzying effect on the parents of the celebrities you mentioned because the parents didn't grow up in the spotlight, they put their children in it.

I worked at a luxury hotel 1995-1996, and I can share this with you: the PARENTS of the celebrity athlete, actor, singer, they want the same treatment as their superstar children. They would DEMAND it. Therefore, I'm really not surprised that there are so many examples of the parents behaving in a way that really is't a positive example for their children. The parents should probably have identities and careers of their own, but they how could they push their child's career to stardom if they did? Really good question.

Yeah, I don't really know, but I think the Olsen Twins' parents are pretty normal. I remember reading about the mother Jarnie about 15 years ago, and she seemed all right, though considering Mary Kate's recent drug problems, I don't know anymore.

Remember Macauley Culkin's father stealing all his money?

Any time a parent tries to live out their dreams through their children, it's going to be a problem. I've seen it with kids being forced into sports by overbearing parents, and little girls being stuck in beauty pageants by their mothers. When you throw fame and money into the mix it gets even worse. These are the worst kinds of parents because it's all about what they want, not what their kids want. It's amazing to me that any child star grows up well.

Dina Lohan has made so many horrible choices such as putting her family on a reality show. The thing is, a reality show isn't close to reality. She needs to give up the spotlight for the sake of living a normal life. They've got a messed up family, so why show it off?

Lindsay has the fame. It's Dina that's craving for it now.

we have enough horrible parents out there to add the fame hungry ones too....yuck! dina lohan and lynn spears probably arent the worst or most negligent, but it would be cool for them to at least say they've made some mistakes with their kids.

I agree to this somewhat the cell phone photos though how in the heck is a parent supposed to be there 24/7. Teenagers do stupid things all the time. Punishing them for it or letting them discover the natural punishment is 90% of parenting a teenager.

This is truly sad situation. Parents need to be a parent and protect their kids from the vultures of the world; instead, these parents are becoming the vultures.

Additionally, why when this writer talk about Lindsay she always make a sly remark about her friend Samantha. Both, Lindsay, and Sam have yet to confirm their a couple. And, if they are a couple, why does their sexual preference have to be mention in every article? I don’t see it with the males and their men.
