David Blaine set the world record for holding his breath on the "Oprah Winfrey Show," immersing himself in water for 17 minutes and 4 seconds. I had no idea this was even humanly possible. That is a freakin’ long ass time. To showcase my absolute dismay at this feat, a list of things you can do in amount of time to further boggle your mind:

3 min: run around the block +
2 min: check for change under couch pillows +
5 min: make guacamole +
2 min: clip your toenails +
4 min: name the 50 states in alphabetical order +
1 min: chug a beer +
4 seconds: sniff your armpit to check if you smell
=
17 min, 4 sec!

Congratulations, David! We're...glad you didn't die. [US]

I completely agree. I feel like if he is going to continually put his body through this torment someone should benefit. It is stunt after stunt without purpose, and though I don't want anything bad to happen to him, I don't understand the risks.

This feat is out of the freakin ordinary! Reminds me when i was a kid sprinting over 500 metres. My body said no but my mind said yes.I was gasping for air at the end and thought i would die. David Blaine has an outstanding mental force. Psychologists call it the "P Substance".

It is a substance surging in the body that cuts beyond measure any feeling of pain or fatigue. Some say that soldiers in wars missing an arm from battle injury, were seen still moving forward with ease because of a "drive" ,a "force" , an "instinct", that cut pain.

All of these, are only for trained people. Don't try David Blaine stuff at home folks!

Thats exactly why he looks a mess.. he is aging his body by messing with the bodies natural flow. He does outlandish tricks for fun, but in turn looks like hes an 120 year old man. I dont think its cute at all. I strongly believe he gets his "power" from a demonic influence... I dont like that at all

Morons. 3 minutes leaves you hypoxic(low on oxygen), causing rapid brain cell death. 6 minutes renders you vegetative, and 8 minutes, unless you're hyporthermic(COLD), is a guaranteed toe tag. Amazing how you new agers buy into the same old parlor tricks that were used by con-men of the 1800s. Go ahead and buy the colon cleanse (MYTH), the gallbladder flushes (HUGE MYTH), and help the crooks giggle their way to the bank while frightening the weak-minded citizenship. I despise you all.

PS- "P Substance", the thing that drives a person missing limbs to find the strength to get help is actually called "SHOCK". Your arteries have muscle. They constrict peripherally in an effort to save blood supply to the core and major organs. The last thing to die in a bleed? The brain. Anyone who has experienced a thing called 'mottling' in a dying person has seen it- a last ditch effort to survive. If Blaine went without breathing for 17 minutes, I'll eat my shorts on PBS and support homeopathy as a legit science. My god. Read a book.
