Give Books, Netflix-Style
user
<p>It seems that I have bookish gifts on the mind this week,
which must explain why I am positively giddy about the idea of
giving someone a subscription to <a rel="nofollow"

(Who's the lucky recipient, you ask? Not sure yet. Perhaps
<em>moi</em>?)</p> <p>If you
haven't heard of Bookswim, here's the skinny:
It's like Netflix, only for books. You order a monthly
subscription to "rent" a certain number of books
at a time. Once you're finished reading a book, you send it
back and receive another. As with Netflix, there are several plans
to choose from. None of them limit the number of books you can
receive during a month's time, though each subscription
limits the number of books you can receive at a time. And you can
cancel at any time.</p> <br> <p><img

width="320" height="146"></p> <p>Plans range from
the "lite reader" (<strong>$9.95 for the
first month for three books at a time</strong>) to
the "devout reader" (<strong>$19.93 for the
first month for eleven books at a time</strong>). After the
first month, the monthly price doubles, but it's still a
good deal. And much like the literary magazines I <a

earlier this week, a Bookswim subscription gives gift recipients
the chance to sample multiple authors and
genres.</p><p><em><strong><a

Even three books at a time seems a little excessive. I don't read more than 2 at a time. And when the price doubles after the first month, I'd already be paying more than I do on just buying my own books. It's a good idea, though.

I agree -- three at a time doesn't seem "light" to me. I wish they had a one- or two-book at a time like Netflix.
