Golden Globe nominations: Is "Pineapple Express" worthy?

This morning the nominees for the 2009 Golden Globe Awards were announced, and there are a few unexpected--and might we add hilarious--choices. In fact, the nomination of Tom Cruise for “Tropic Thunder” actually made the live audience crack up, as did James Franco's for "Pineapple Express." Seriously? We happen to really like Franco (good actor, also really handsome) but we find it odd that the Hollywood Foreign Press chose to honor his performance as a goofy pot dealer more than his portrayal of Harvey Milk's lover. Guess that’s why this is the Golden Globes and not the Oscars!

Take a look at the nominees and let us know who you think deserves or does not deserve to win.

FILM
Best Motion Picture – Drama
• The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
• Frost/Nixon
• The Reader
• Revolutionary Road
• Slumdog Millionaire

Best Actress – Motion Picture – Drama
• Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
• Angelina Jolie, Changeling
• Meryl Streep, Doubt
• Kristin Scott Thomas, I've Loved You So Long
• Kate Winslet. That's what great about the Golden Globes. They are completely wacky and seem to be for sheer entertainment.

Remember when Pia Zadora won for her role in Butterfly or some such drivel? COMEDY!

Pineapple Express was a hilarious movie and Franco deserves the nominee, period. Who cares what the movie was about?

Pineapple Express was absolutely hilarious due mainly to Franco's performance. He deserves it for the comedy category. Wow! He was awesome in it!

Pineapple Express was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen! However, did anyone hear about what the Golden Globes had to say about the Dark Knight? Well, it wasn't anything good and that was a fantastic movie! I loved both and wish I could've seen the Dark Knight at leat get nominated. Oh well, it will probably win an award thats more honorable anyways.

Eh, I'd be all set if I never had to see James Franco again. But then again, I have an old man crush on Dustin Hoffman and am clearly rooting for him!

I was really impressed by James Franco in the role. It sealed the deal for me in considering him a good, well-rounded actor. Yeah, it was a pot movie, but it was funny, and mainly because of him! :)

I have to say its a little upsetting to see Burn After Reading for Best Motion Picture-Comedy/Musical. The movie was alot of hype and nothing more. Laughing is usually a standard for the comedy genre, but it wasnt for this film. I left my seat knowing that I could have done something better with my time and money.

This is my take. A best actor should be one who plays their role convincingly, whether it by comedic, or serious. So, if James Franco was a convincing pot dealer, so be it.

I'm really tired of super pretentious awards nominations.
