How do you take your decision?

Could you answer this question? You will be surprised if you know that we are taking many critical and fate making decision very lightly. That's what I've seen in my life and in other's life. Even when it comes to the business including multi-billion dollar business I've seen big managers and great bankers are just following their best guessing. Yes, we cover that with many psycological tricks like deep thinking and consulting but at the end of the day it is a nothing but guessing game and throwing the dice on the table to decide. Decide what, decide if you will marry this girl, if you will join this university as accounting or engineering major, decide to initiate a war in Iraq or to destroy world trade centers, decide ...yes each day you take choices decision and others do as well. You is just a reflection of your exeuted decision before, some people has taken their last decision on the earth ...suiside.
It is worthy to do whatever it takes to make the right decision.
It may save your life, It may improve totally and dramatically your life and ..for parents ..and it may change their and their children lives if they spend some moments think seriously about their decision...for politicians it may save millions of life and it may affect nations.
But human are lazy creatures, taking decision is easier than thinking and investigating even if the price is much higher than the invested effort.
I have interesting example about the decision making and it is about multi-billion business, yes making decisions in multi-million business.
It is the oil and gas industry.
You will be shocked if you really know how people are taking serious serious decisions in this industry.
You will find it almost similar to the same way oil men since 150 years where locating their oil wells, by throwing their hats and wherever it will fall, this will be the location of the next well.

Tony hello..do you have the data?
Tony:
No..but we need to know the economics of the field and the sensitivity analysis regarding the quality of the oil and gas compared with the other benchmarks like Brent or WTI.
Geoeconomist:
Yeah..this is part of our economic modeling but where is the data and the contract of the block (PSC).
...data data data..no data..
At this moment my mind,s bill has started to ring loudly...
What you have read is not an exceptional case or odd case ..believe me that happens all the time.
Ok..I will go to the point.
Decisions mean data, analysis, indepth investigations, ..
Do that in your life either you are taking decision to select what you will wear today or you will make decision about initiate war on Iraq, or Iran or Afghanistan, or Pakistan, or whateverstan...don't use the unscientific short cuts or the psycological tricks, cut the bull s--- and do whatever it takes to make the right decision.
