How much do plumbers make?

The man known as Joe the Plumber has made news recently after he asked Sen. Barack Obama about his possible tax policy if he becomes president.

In the coverage there was some confusion about how much someone like Joe the Plumber actually makes in a year.  I'm certainly curious about it.  Fortunately some writers at PayScale.com looked into it.

According to the article "'Joe the Plumber' and Middle-Class Paychecks," plumbers in Ohio (where Joe lives) make an average salary of $47,500 per year. Top-earners in that category make $81K.

The article also discusses the nebulous problem of defining "middle class." In some parts of the country you can make a six-figure salary and still consider yourself middle class, whereas others would call you rich.

But it does seem fair to say that people who make $250K or more per year are among the top earners in this country.  And cutting their taxes is not on Obama's agenda (nor should it be).

Joe the Plumber, what a joke, a pawn if there ever was one! He makes like 38k a year, not even a real plumber! He wishes he had the problem of paying taxes on an income of 250k.

I heard he is considering a run for congress. Can't wait to see what that reveals about this fool.

PEOPLE who make that much don't deserve a tax brake, COMPANIES who make 25,000 GROSS are hardly making it big. I know little shops in my home town that would be hard pressed to keep their business going on that amount and could really use a tax break.

Pending where you live, 250K is not a lot. People need to get over the whole no tax breaks on those who earn more. They also tend to pay higher taxes and give back to the community much more than those who earn less.

Cops in LA average $110K, so a senior grade couple living together would hit the magical $250K. Yeah, right. Thanks for the help knucklehead.

It all depends on where you live. A person who makes $250K/year in North Dakota is rich, a person who makes $250K/year in San Francisco is not.
