It's Not All Bride Wars

Nobody knows that better than Millie Martini Bratten, the editor of Brides magazine, which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year. The current anniversary issue has covers, wedding dresses and advice from the past seven and a half decades.

Over the years being a bride in some ways has changed and in some ways stayed the same, Bratten told me. "Today's bride is not the young, inexperienced girl, leaving her father's house to live in her husband's house," she said. "Today's bride is usually around 27. She is working, is very realistic, and is paying for part of the costs." But, at the same time, she notes, "the most important thing for a bride still is to be surrounded by friends and family at the moment she is changing her life."

To read more about Bride Wars, click here.

The movie was fine, funny, Kate and Anne are lovely to watch. BUT STOP ENDING EVERY MOVIE WITH A F$%^&ING BABY.

What is with this trend?? I am CHOOSING TO NOT having a baby and there are LOTS of infertile couples out there and NOT EVERYONE thinks it's great to crap out a litter of snot nosed ankle biters.

Why does everyone cry and get all gushy over babies? They're expensive, wiggly crying balls of poo and vomit who grow up to be obnoxious grade schoolers who have that weird germy smell mixed with playdough and plastic and then they become moody, rebelious teenagers that try to steal your money and like to blast High School Musical songs from their bedrooms, or worse Emo. No. No. I don't want this.

And just because I don't want this doesn;t mean I am a selfish person incapable of nurturing. I just happen to really prefer animals to people. And I also worked in rape crisis with women and children for 10 years. I know what it means to nurture and have compassion. Parenting is a WHOLE different entity. But my mother loves to accuse me of being this heartless wonder because she feels insulted that i don't want kids because she's pretty sure (deep down)that the reason none of her 6 children don't want their own children is because all three of our parents were such screw-ups.

In part there is a grain of truth to her unspoken fears. But really, I'm over it and I just, as a women, would rather help animals and other people's screwed up kids than raise my own.

    Thank you. The end.

wow, Lizbeth, you need to calm down. This post is about BRIDES, not children. You went off on quite a rant there that was irrevalent to this topic.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but when I think of my own wedding (which was almost 20 yrs ago), I can clearly remember how it was all-consuming as well as exhausting. Every little detail seemed SO IMPORTANT at the time! Despite a few glitches though, it was a wonderful day.
