Mercury Poisoning: Jeremy Piven
This week the “Entourage” star dropped out of Broadway show, “Speed-the-Plow,“ due to “shocking levels” of mercury in his system, supposedly from eating too much sushi. Playwright David Mamet joked that Piven was leaving to "pursue a career as a thermometer," which is about how seriously we took his excuse.

Report AbuseDon't speak so soon. It's a serious illness. A friend's husband became very ill with mercury poisoning several years ago. It took several trips to several doctors before an accurate diagnosis was found.
He ate at a seafood restaurant quite regularly. If you go online, you can find much information about mercury poisoning.
There's a reason many doctors advise pregnant women to avoid tuna fish.

Report AbuseJust exactly what is it you think Piven is hiding?
Of course the story is true, he's no druggy nor is he a drunk.
He ate too much tainted sushi. End of story.

Report AbuseAs far as Piven, check this site out- turns out that the "excuse" is no BS- better to check out your facts before you make judgments.

Report AbuseIgnorance. Sheer ignorance. It's unfortunate to your readers and to mercury toxic people like myself who have had mercury poisoning for the last 13 years. I wish you well when you break your first Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb.
Do your research before you write dangerously flippant remarks like you did about mercury toxicity.

Report AbuseA woman that I was somewhat friendly with was diagnosed as having a higher than normal mercury level. A short time later she could not write her own name and then began suffering significant memory loss. She soon suffered what you would recognize as late stage alzheimer's symptoms and died last year after a long period of being unable to articulate any speech or remember her own husband or friends. Please try to be better informed on a subject before randomly responding with negative comments.

Report AbuseJeremy Piven lost credibility when he called up actors asking if they wanted to take his place BEFORE he came out with Mercury poisioning. His physician has also had his share of troubles over diet supplements. If you've never done live theatre before, Broadway may not be the best place for you to start. It takes staminia and discipline to do live theatre, something TV & movie actors don't seem to have a lot of these days.

Report AbuseI just wanted to clarify that in no way am I making light of the actual illnesses the celebrities are claiming to have, but rather poking fun at their seemingly fraudulent and atypical excuses. If Jeremy Piven is truly sick, I do feel badly, but it's been widely reported that he was partying too much and couldn't handle the pressure of the show and started seeking actor replacements. Even the playwright of the musical himself doesn't believe his excuse!
