John McCain and his
entire scatter-brained campaign have been flailing around in the
mud for months. They've tried every trick in the book to pull Obama
down in the mud with them, but Obama isn't biting. Obama could have
turned the tables on McCain's hot mess of a group, but he's opted
to take the high road.
When McCain and Palin were busting Obama's chops for attending a
church led by Jeremiah Wright, Obama could've said, "Hey, Sarah
Palin, what about the crazy-ass church you go to and the fact that
your pastor goes on actual witch hunts?" But he
didn't.
When McCain accused Obama of accepting money from Freddie Mac,
Obama could've said, "You're right, I did take $126,000 from
Freddie Mac - but what about the over $2 million Rick Davis took
from Freddie Mac on your behalf?"
When Sarah Palin goes on an on about how inexperienced Obama is,
well, he could have just laughed in her face.
When McCain and Palin accused Obama of "palling around with
terrorists," Obama could have called into question Sarah Palin and
her husband's connections with the Alaskan Independence Party and
John McCain's friendship with G. Gordon Liddy. But he didn't.
Yesterday, McCain's henchmen (including Rudy Giuliani) took a new
tack and tried to pin "PLO Spokesman," Rashid Khalidi to Obama.
Apparently there's a video that shows Obama at a dinner toasting
Khalidi - telling him how much he loves him and wants to marry him.
I don't know - we haven't seen the video, so who know what's really
on there. In any event, the Obama campaign finally said, wait up,
hold up, just one hot little second:
"...the Obama campaign swiftly pointed out that Mr. McCain has his own connection to Mr. Khalidi. According to tax records cited by Mr. Obama’s campaign, a foreign policy organization that Mr. McCain chairs, the International Republican Institute, gave more than $850,000 in 1998 and 1999 to a group in part founded by Mr. Khalidi, the Center for Palestine Research and Studies.
In countering the
McCain attacks, the Obama campaign cited a tangential link between
Mr. McCain and Mr. Khalidi. Mr. McCain is chairman of the
International Republican Institute, which gave grants in the 1990s
to the Center for Palestine Research and Studies, of which Mr.
Khalidi was a founder, to conduct surveys of Palestinians. The
International Republican Institute’s 1998 tax filing says it
gave $448,000 to the Palestine group, money that originated with
government grants to the Republican
organization."

So...the
other day when someone told Joe the Plumber that a vote for Obama
would be "death to Israel," Joe - in all of his infinite wisdom -
agreed with this person and it made national news. The death of
Israel, you say? Apparently even Fox News thinks you're an
idiot:
Everyone knows that the PLO
exists to support the destruction of Israel - in fact, they
hate Israel. I don't normally quote the Wiki , but:
The PLO was
considered "the richest of all terrorist organizations" with $8-$10
billion in assets and an annual income of $1.5-$2 billion from
"donations, extortion, payoffs, illegal arms dealing, drug
trafficking, money laundering, fraud, etc.", according to a 1993
National Criminal Intelligence Service report. The Daily Telegraph
reported in 1999 that the PLO had $50 billion in secret investments
around the world.
Now Rashid Khalidi was a big ol' PLO lover back in the
'70s and John McCain is absolutely right that Khalidi was their
spokesperson. So, question to you, John McCain - are you nucking
futs? Is it possible that one of those "secret investments" had
anything to do with a half a million dollars provided to Khalidi's
group by the International Republican Institute that you chair?
And Joe the Plumber - you just need to go away; you're an idiot.
For the life of me, I can't understand why the McCain campaign is
allowing you to speak on their behalf. Next thing you know, McCain
is going to want to appoint this braintrust to a cabinet position -
not that he's going to have that opportunity - but if he's willing
to appoint a person he doesn't know (and who clearly doesn't
understand critical issues like the economy or foreign policy) to
such a high-profile role in this his campaign for the presidency
(I'm still talking about JT Plumber, not Sarah Palin in case you
were wondering), then he's proven that his lack of mental acuity,
ability to rationalize or make sound decisions and his judgment
should seriously be called into question.
I need an aspirin.
