Just Thinking About People's Music Taste

I hang out with a varied group of friends. I guess if you were looking from the outside in then I would look like the "rebel" in the group. I have a lot of tattoos, a goatee, and 6 earrings. I listen to a lot of different kinds of music and I know that everyone says that but I mean it. I love The Doors, The Band, Slayer, Eazy E, Cradle of Filth, Elvis, Wu Tang Clan, and The Misfits (to name a few). Having said that, I've noticed that most people don't frequently stray away from one genre of music. Most of my friends either listen to country or rap music. It's kind of annoying to me because I'm passionate about music so when I hear people say that that they only like one genre of music it makes me think that they are close-minded to an extent. I know that I shouldn't put so much emphasis on someone's taste in music, but my opinion is that to truly enjoy, say, a, artist like Tim McCraw, then you should appreciate the music that influenced him like Conway Twoody and David Allen Coe. This is how I rationalize my appreciation for a band/artist: I like Pantera, therefore I like Metallica, therefore I like Kiss, therefore I like Jimi Hendrix. I like Rancid, therefore I like Screeching Weasel, therefore I like The Sex Pistols, therefore I like The Misfits. To me it's much more complex than just liking a song because it's catchy. Most people hear an artist like Kanye West and I've heard people say that he is a "musical genius". Really? Ever heard of Afrika Bambaataa or George Clinton? They were doing basically just an earlier version of what he is doing now.
