Kirsten Dunst comes clean: Turns out she was in rehab for depression

Earlier this year, 26-year-old actress Kirsten Dunst disappeared off our radar and reappeared at Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah. Rumor was she went in for alcohol and substance abuse, as many Hollywood stars do, but today Kirsten admitted the truth. “I didn’t go to Cirque Lodge for alcohol abuse or drug abuse, I went there for depression,” says Dunst from the set of her new movie, All Good Things. “I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it.”

Kirsten, who knows many others in the industry suffering from mental illness, was happy to open up and dispel rumors. “There’s been a lot of misrepresentation about what is going on in my life, and it’s been very painful for my friends and family,” she says. “Everyone feels like they have to defend me,” says Dunst. “Now that I’m feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something,” adding, “Depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about.” Well said, Kirsten! We’ve always been a fan of your work, and now we support you too. Stay strong! [E!]

Everyone goes through there ups and downs especially out there in the entertainment world but unlike others at least you had since enough to acknowledge it first. I say stick in there and when ever you fell that it's wearing you down get out and take time out for yourself.

I thought you went to a pysciatrist or doctor for mental issues? not rehab! no judging, just I've been to rehab and treatment in rehab is for abusing chemicals, food and sex! so I don't believe this statement from K.D.

Well, she's always been more level-headed than most of the stars her age so I am inclined to believe her. I've never heard of rehab for depression but if someone has the money then I guess anything is possible.

This particular facility treats a variety of different diseases, i.e. chemical abuse, alcoholism, depression, bi-polar disorder etc. These are trained psychiatrists and psychologists who know their business and can operate under highly volatile circumstances. For instance, Kirsten is in the public eye. Going to a regular facility would be out of the question should the press be so inclined to expose her to some additional scrutiny. I think Kirsten did the right thing by keeping it in a secured facility where outsiders are definitely not welcomed. Here, here sweetheart, you did the right thing.

I'm glad you're feeling better Kirsten..I don't know why everyone is so hard on you..You're like the least offensive actress there is.. pretty much..I suffer from depression as well and it's very hard..life is hard without depression..I think only people who suffer from it can truly understand how awful it is...smoking weed helps from time to time..

I guess the root of her alcohol and drug abuse was her depression. It's silly for her to come out and say that rehab was for her "depression" when in fact, rehab is to treat substance abuse - a detox center and not to treat a mental illness. From personal experience, depression/mental illness manifest through some type of abuse, usually drug AND alcohol. Although, discovering the culprit is key to treating the abuse, mental illness is a lifelong battle and can't be "cured" by checking in and out of rehab. I'm a fan of her work, but she's a mess.
