Kirsten Dunst comes clean: Turns out she was in rehab for depression

Earlier this year, 26-year-old actress Kirsten Dunst disappeared off our radar and reappeared at Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah. Rumor was she went in for alcohol and substance abuse, as many Hollywood stars do, but today Kirsten admitted the truth. “I didn’t go to Cirque Lodge for alcohol abuse or drug abuse, I went there for depression,” says Dunst from the set of her new movie, All Good Things. “I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it.”

Kirsten, who knows many others in the industry suffering from mental illness, was happy to open up and dispel rumors. “There’s been a lot of misrepresentation about what is going on in my life, and it’s been very painful for my friends and family,” she says. “Everyone feels like they have to defend me,” says Dunst. “Now that I’m feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something,” adding, “Depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about.” Well said, Kirsten! We’ve always been a fan of your work, and now we support you too. Stay strong! [E!]

Not all depression stems from substance abuse. Lots of times depression / mental illness runs in a family, too. But it can come on , all on it's own.

Whatever the particulars here for Ms. Dunst -which we really don't need to know, do we?? don't matter.

What matters is that she got the help she needed and I say good for her. No matter what the problem, recognising that you need help, and then actually getting it...is huge and important.

    Way to go, K!

lord, EVERYONE is going to rehab now. you dont go to a rehabilitation center for depression. you see a therapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist, and get put on medication if needed. i have severe depression, and at one point in my life i was suicidal, but i got through it. i work on myself every single day. it takes time, and i'm still at war with my depression, though it's not as severe as it was. it's as if celebs are using the excuse of going to rehab so they can take a vacation. take a REAL vacation: the beach, overseas, or even just stay home and relax. i understand that celebs have it hard, but regular people have it hard, too, and most are MUCH worse off than the celebs. they have the luxery of being able to afford to have their problems fixed at the drop of a hat. the average American can't afford personal health care, let alone see a specialist, to help fix the problems they have. i'm not bashing Ms. Dunst because she acknowledged she has a problem with depression and sought out help, but it's celebs in general that are taking the "rehab" excuse too damn far.

Or my guess is the reason she is in a rehab for depression is she had a mental breakdown or attempted suicide. But again, it's just a guess.

I agree with taking time out for yourself, (since as a mom) I know being overcommitted to things can get overwhelming. For me the best thing can sometimes be just having a chat with friends, maybe treating yourself to a nice lunch or movie, perhaps even taking a nap or reading a book helps.

Derpession is the most common disease now a day, it can be seen any where in our socity, I thik it is due to very fast life, everyone is in depression for that, one thig is very difficult here is that when the people are in depression the used to take Drug and Alcohol and it is not good for their health.
