Magical effects of perseverance and patience

John Quincy Adams once said that “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish, and a little knowledge that acts, is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle.” This is with out a doubt one of my favorite quotes, especially the first two lines which I couldn’t agree with more in the area of self improvement.

Individuals may spend countless hours reading wonderful self help books and attending a variety of different therapy sessions. They learn a lot of valuable information but nothing seems to be changing their way of life or thinking. Tons of money and time is being spent purchasing all of these self help items, only to find year after year their life remains the same. They are still suffering from depression, anxiety and low self esteem, etc. Never realizing that none of those self help books and therapy sessions is going to help unless the information suggested is applied and practiced in an ongoing basis. It may also mean that all of this knowledge they have armored themselves with over the course of time was not used when a battle presented itself.

In recent years the self help industry has become a billion dollar industry maybe even more. And partly I believe it is because people are looking for a quick fix. So I suspect one of the things that may be happening is for example, they read one particular book and follow an exercise expecting for some monumental change to take place in a limited amount of time. When it doesn’t many people tend to quickly look for the next quick fix. Another book, therapist or program that will guarantee the particular change that will place them back in the human race and make them feel better. Even worse then that a person may just give up altogether while still harboring this fantastic knowledge which overtime becomes idle, All along missing the two key component’s- Patience and perseverance.

It’s easy to implement a particular suggestion in one’s life. But the real progress comes from continuous practice in the area and the wiliness to deal with the mishaps that may appear in between with out letting yourself become disillusioned on time and quality.

Of course we all know that what works for someone doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you, and sure we should aim to find the appropriate measures that best suits us as an individual, but when you catch yourself during the course of a year or less going through several self help programs with no results, it may be time for you to stop and consider that perhaps not practicing patience and  perseverance has something to do with it.

It might have taken months or years for a particular difficulty or obstacle to appear through an onset of different events. Therefore it might also take about the same time for them to disappear through the practice of a suggestion given by an author, therapist or self help program. All along understanding that while trudging the positive road there may be several times where you are going to stumble back into the negative side lines, always straightening up and getting back on track without searching for another road.

    Nice quote I would also like to add my favorite Quote (& a friends quote interwoven) and One Concept I've held that keeps me moving right along. Currently I'm in an Idle position ready to make another Turn within my life. First the Quote then the concept: I'm not sure where these came from so if anyone knows please post for the community. Thanks

    ***********************

    Quote: "The Past is Gone", "The Future is not Set"; but Now is always a Gift and that's why it's called "The Present". "Regret is Hoping for a Better Past".

    ____________=======+++++=======____________ Concept:

    When goal setting Always make the Goal Tangible and within Reason. like I would like to purchase a Home within 3 years rather than Within an Hour. Now granted the Universe likes to think and do things fast with your Ideas but make the goal as real as it can be for your current situation. I'll take my case in point for reference I made a goal of creating an All MIDI Musical work within 6 months. I wanted a finished project that I could l put on Tape or CD and Listen to and would be around 30 to 45 Minutes long. With me playing all the instruments myself.

    Now when I say put on Tape or CD I mean when I launched a Song on any Computer the Data Itself would contain Send commands per track by sound level, Instrument sound, Assigned speakers with an Intro done with a Vocal part also dictated by the computer (Computerized Voice). The concept for the work was a story of the creation of Pangaea some 200 to 300 Million years ago. Utilizing 1 instrument for an element like a Reverse Cymbal Sound for Wind, Marimba for Trees, Rumbling for crashing Mountains and so on. The 6 Month period marker happened to fall on December 24th XXXX

    The concept is a way of measuring your overall progress towards a goal., but most of all it's Marker you place in TIME!. Mine ended on the morning of December 24th of that same year.

    Picture yourself walking on a concrete path. Behind you is Solid Concrete with some Arrows sticking out of the Concrete with little Notes on the flights. As you make one step the concrete Dries just moments before your foot hits the path. That single Step is only a Moment in time . . . Completed.

    So You Put your Dream/Goal on a piece of paper, affix it to the Arrow and Shoot the Arrow in front of you so it lands in the wet cement. As the arrow sways in the wet cement with the winds of change swaying it about and obstacles land and brush against it the arrow is pushed to and fro.

    It's only when your foot is planted next to the Arrow that you know for certain that you've persevered with patience; Most important of all, That Moment in time is now marked in stone for all to see.

    Thank you for your time.
