McCain or Obama...What's your reasoning for voting?

I have to say that when this election season started, I wasn't too thrilled that Barack was running b/c I still believe that American still have a lot of racism and sexism.  I thought that it would be a very interesting season for the fact that we had a very different assortment of viable candidates running for the most important office in the United States .

One thing I never did was say I would vote for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman and I am a woman.  And I never stated that I would vote for Barack Obama because he is black and I am black.

I looked at the issues:

·      the economy & the stimulus package

·      education,

·      defense

·      Health care

·      Stem cell research

·      Taxes

·      Energy

I also looked at the way they carried themselves, spoke and especially their deliveries when debating during the primaries.  My fiancé argued me down about Senator Obama and that he was voting for him because we need something different than what we had for the last eight years.  What makes this funny is that we’re both young, mid-twenties, and when we met he didn’t have any interest in politics and now I’ve created a monster.  But I like that because we have even more things to talk about.

I love and respect the Clinton ’s and I still believe that President Clinton did a great job while running this country.  He left this country in a great place, amongst these other great super powers and we dwindled to the bottom of the totem pole, someone has to help me out with that.  It still amazes me people, throughout this entire election, are looking at sex and race as the one and only reason why they’re voting for that candidate.  I know that in this 2008 election, we got as close as we can with a woman…a successful, educated woman got so far and was so close to being the chosen candidate for President of the United States .  I have to give Senator Clinton her props, she did an excellent job and all women should be proud of the achievements that she made but obviously Senator Obama won and being a Democrat, I have to back my candidate.

I never looked at sex or race as an issue or a reason why I would vote for that candidate, it’s about who can lead this country to greatness and resolve economical issues that we have at home first then correct the distorted image we’ve garnered in recent years around this world.

What I wanted to know from you, readers, is what is or are your logics for voting and choosing your candidates?

John McCain & Sarah Palin

Or

Barack Obama & Joe Biden

Issues, are the first thing I look at when voting. In this case, Barack's stand on many issues are in complete agreement with my own - I'm a teacher and mother, so education and healthcare are paramount for me. I love that he has such workable strategies for taking care of both issues. I have been educating myself about him since 2002, just because I find him so intelligent and charismatic. I used to really like McCain too, but he has completely sold out this election. He used to be pro-choice, but has changed his tune (on lots of things) in order to make the evangelical Christians vote for him. Worked for W I suppose.

The next thing I look at is the negatives, and then I sort of play a game of "worst-case scenario." When McCain picked Palin for his VP, I literally felt insulted. He would never have picked that person if they were male. He only made his pick to be exciting and bring a media focus back his way - even bad publicity is better than no publicity, eh? If this is the kind of puppeteering that we'll see in the White House, then I am seriously considering moving my family to another country. I hear Vancouver isn's so bad...

Palin is less qualified to be mayor, governor, or VP than I am. And with a 72-yr-old at the top of the ticket, that is a seriously poor judgement call for McCain. The last thing this country needs is poor judgement calls by the POTUS. Yick.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are two amazing indiviuals with insanely high credentials, and they really have good heads on their shoulders. They have time and time again voted with the best intrests of the country at heart, and I truly respect that. I can't wait to see how well they turn this country around.

McCain is stubborn... just like GWB. I seriously doubt he would listen to his advisors and Cabinet and would just do whatever he wanted. He would be too quick to press that button on Iran. Even more frightening, if John did not survive his first term, Sarah Palin would become the President. Now, that is very worrisome, since she has the IQ of a turnip.

Obama is a very quick study. He has run a transparent and highly efficient campaign. That is the primary reason he was able to beat Hillary. Her campaign was in constant turmoil and had much in fighting. I've seen how much knowledge Obama has acquired just on this campaign trail. Joe Biden is a breathing encyclopedia on foreign affairs.

I have more faith and hope for this country with the Obama/Biden ticket.

Thank you very much for your post. This was my first time blogging and the reason I posed this question is because I read in another blog about the debate last night and someone responded that she is voting for McCain because of Palin and it amazes me because people aren't looking at the issues and are just thinking about the sex of the candidates.

Mimi: I voted for Obama because I believe he will do what is right for our country. We could debate for a long time over the Hillary Clinton aspect, but I just believe Obama ran a better campaign. He had a better staff working for him and they got out and got the vote for him.

McCain/Palin would not be good for this country. It would have been another 4 years of the same stuff we have had going for the last 8 years. Total disregard for the average worker, giving big business all the breaks, and wanted to go to war with anyone that disagreed with us. I'm glad they didn't win.

    Take care, Pat :)
