OMG: Another career blog

user

Before I decided to write this blog I asked myself do we really need another career blog. Of course, I answered that question in the affirmative. There are actually several career blogs that I like and many others that seem to simply recycle shopworn -- or even worse, offer down right bad -- advice. In future blog posts I will offer my thoughts on the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of career blogs.

I decided to write this blog because we all see the world through our own experiences. That is the theme of my latest book UP: Influence Power and the U Perspective -- The Art of Getting What You Want and why I created the U Perspective concept. After 20 years in Human Resources, the last ten as the head of Human Resources at TV Guide Magazine, USA Networks and Barneys New York Inc., I believe that my experiences can help others understand how corporate executives, especially those involved in the hiring and promotion process, think. That will help you get hired and promoted.

As someone who has had three different careers: lawyer (don't hold that against me; I gave it up a long time ago), human resources executive and now author, newspaper columnist, professor, career coach and speaker (I guess my current career is actually 5 careers), I have a certain amount of insight into what it takes to successfully change careers and the challenges you face.

What is in this for me -- what is my U Perspective? When we write, we learn, at least if we listen to our audience. I hope to hear from my readers and learn from you. So ask questions, share your experiences and offer advice. E-mail me at lee@yourcareerdoctors.com
