Palin v. Biden: Your opinion here

Reuters via Yahoo! News

So, did the most-anticipated vice presidential debate in at least two decades live up to the hype? After Alaska Governor Sarah Palin turned in some shaky answers during network interviews in recent weeks, the focus of last night's debate was squarely on whether she could stand her ground opposite a Washington pro like Joe Biden. There were no YouTube-worthy gaffes, as Michael Crowley of The New Republic says, and plenty of the "aw-shucks, regular-folks Palin personality, with no effort to turn it into anything else," as The Wall Street Journal's Gerald Seib writes. Biden reined in his folksy, rhetorical style, while Palin dropped her g's and sprinkled her responses with enough winks, darn rights, doggone its, bless her hearts, and you betchas to hands-down win the most down-home-debate-style award.

Here on Shine, Joanna Douglas on Entertainment wonders if Palin's debate performance has changed your opinion about whether the Alaska governor is prepared to serve as vice president. On Work + Money, I take a look at how the two candidates represented their tickets on money issues, including the bailout, the mortgage crisis and health care. And Healthy Living's Jessica Ashley gave us a meditation for the debate that we can continue to use this election season. (By the way, did you play the Palin debate bingo Jessica recommended?)

Now that the one-and-only Palin-Biden debate is over, let's hear what you think about how the candidates performed, and whether what they said and how they said it will affect your vote in November. Speak up!

No change. The only thing that was solidified without a doubt was that Biden has a clue and Palin does not. It was kind of annoying how she kept winking at the da*m camera. Biden demonstrated his knowledge on US history, current and past foreign affairs and Senate votes. Palin demonstrated the art of the non-answer, subject changing and borderline inappropriate relaxed speech in such a formal setting. She's not ready. If McCain loses this, he can blames 60% of it on Palin. What a dumb move. If he wins, God help America because Palin is the one who is going to be representing our country in other countries when McCain is off in other areas working.

I would feel a lot more comfortable with an Obama/Biden administration than a McCain/Palin.

Winking at the crowd and folksy charm are not qualities I look for in a vice president. I look for a firm grasp of the issues that matter to me in these serious times. This is no time for fluff. Biden answered the questions in a straightforward manner while Palin skirted around them.

In my opinion Palin made a mockery of the VP debate. She was insulting to not only Biden, but to the American public. It was supposed to be a professional debate, but her making rhymes and winking at the camera was disgusted me. Does she think she was making buddies with middle class America when she called them “Joe Six Pack”? How rude! Don’t talk down to us!

I think that rykel85 nailed it on the head with her comment. Biden projected a polished image that was secure in what he was speaking about, sound in history, and an understanding of a matter even if he hadn't been directly involved with it. Palin looked like a college kid bluffing her way through a presentation she had weeks to get ready for, but didn't bother to start it until the night before. Her charm would make her a good talk show host, but it won't mean much if the unemployment rate keeps going up, our banks don't have money to lend, or if we are hit with another 9/11 type event. I feel in no way is she qualified to run this country should something happen to McCain. The only thing she had going for her last was that the camera loved her - she looked amazing from every angle. Unfortunately for her, being pretty isn't enough to be vice president. Maybe McCain should have gotten that memo too...

Well, hats off to Sarah Palin for doing well last night. She regurgitated her lines so beautifully that for one moment, I thought they were her original thoughts. Joe Biden on the other hand... his words rolled right off his tongue. I believe in most of what he said. I had faith in his stances and he neglected to use all the half truths that Palin did. Her winking to the camera and often saying "gotcha", and "oh, I dunno" were cute, but I'm sorry I cannot defend her as a a qualified VP candidate.

I maintain that Barack and Joe will be an awesome team to lead our country out of the many crisis' we're in today. I maintain that McCain and Palin will represent another 4 years of Bush... or worse.

    My issues are this...

We are fighting someone else's war in the middle East. We need to end it.

Our economy is so far down the tubes that I'm glad I still rent and stopped paying into my investments a year ago. I believe our country needs to stop rewarding (in a sense) Wall St. and focus on the middle class....and though both sides are arguing they can do that better, I believe the Democrats relate better to middle class America and are further away from being elitists than McCain and his 8 mansions.

I believe that homosexual couples when just as in love as any heterosexual couple should be given the right to join in a union. Whether it be a marrige labled by their house of worship or a civil union as described by the government, I don't think the right to join and build a family should be forbidden... or even just "tolerated" like Palin says.

I believe in foreign oil independence. I also believe oil is not the only means for energy. Windmills, solar energy, clean coal... and NO MORE DRILLING.

The debate was good last night... not gonna lie. I watched all of it, not just the first 30 minutes like the Presidential debate. But in the end I have to back my Dems still. My heart tells me they are more in touch with me and my class and have a clearer vision of what to improve and how to improve it.

I just read that governor Palin was supposed to bring about women to the republican platform, but in polls, men responded to her and women didn't. This is a tip for Ms Palin--Men like to be winked at by cute women. Women---not so much.

She did great - I look forward to seeing VP Palin for the next 4 years. And to go on and be the first female President.
