Pointing the Finger: Does the Media Give Biden a Free Pass While Hanging Palin Out to Dry?

There are far too many reasons that Sarah Palin

has become the scapegoat of the media during this presidential election year beginning with her inability to name any Supreme Court cases during her now infamous interview with Katie Couric.  This may have merely been Palin simply succumbing to the pressure of being grilled by one of broadcast journalism's major players, still the media’s preoccupation with this past fumble and Palin’s recent stumbles with defining the role of the U.S. vice president, has left some supporters wondering, is the Republican V.P. nominee truly being treated fairly?  Could the fact that Palin is a female Republican responsible for all of the attention on the less than flattering responses and choices that she has made along the way?  After all, Palin is not the only campaigning vice presidential nominee making mistakes.  It is a fact that Democratic V.P. nominee Biden

has made his own share of mistakes along the presidential campaign trail as well but somehow they do not seem to be receiving the same amount of scrutiny from the media that his Republican counterparts' shortcomings are constantly shown.  Is the media simply on a witch hunt and Palin their unfortunate new “it girl”?  Many were appalled and baffled when Biden during a recent Democratic fundraiser, called attention to Barack Obama’s obvious inexperience and the fact that he would need a little time to “train” if elected to the White House.  If only this were the worse of it as Biden continued on to state that the rest of the country would be waiting to test that inexperience.  Biden unfortunately ended this momentous moment of misjudgment by stating that this could lead to an international incident in the first six months of Obama being in office.  Now this hardly seems like a vote of confidence from the number two man on the Democratic ticket and yet merely a murmur was uttered after such a blatant blunder.  Not even the fact that Biden’s poorly chosen words have now become instant campaign leverage for his running mate’s opponent Senator John McCain., caused more than a ripple in the media coverage.  In the meantime, Palin’s every interview, wardrobe choice, smile or wink has been overly analyzed by the media to the point of ridiculousness and it reeks of favoritism with the surplus going to the liberals on the left and not the conservatives on the right.  Is it really that Palin is being treated like the step child du jour by the media or could it simply be that certain members of the public are just upset that Biden has not screwed up enough for it to become a real matter of dissension for all Democratic voters?

When he entered the Senate at age 29, Biden was the youngest to hold that office. Over the years, Biden has met with 47 heads of state across this globe and is generally well thought of by fellow Congressmen. He generally keeps his family and private life out of the spotlight.

Palin arrived on the scene among controversy with family in tow... and they still are. (Any reason why these children are not in school?) Her political background is littered with waste , self absorbtion, bad decisions, and lies. There is no pipeline and may never be. The Bridge to Nowhere is a bad joke. We all know the real story on the plane on Ebay. Now we have Troopergate and NeimanMarcusgate.

When Palin cannot answer even a basic political question, she cries

" gotcha journalism". Now, to add fuel to the fire, that 20 watt bulb Elisabeth Hasselback has joined the fray.

The media has contributed , yes, but only because Palin is fair game.... everytime she opens her mouth and gives that darlin' little wink.

Hey Springtime, thanks for your comments on the topic. These are quite insightful and once more, terribly on point. I do think that Palin is to be given credit for the fact that she took her great looks and turned them into a pretty phenomenal political career. I do not doubt that Sarah Palin has a level of intelligence as a former journalism major and news anchor but perhaps, the V.P. nominee is in a little bit over her head in this national domain. As for the Hasselbeck dim wit (love the low wattage comparison, perfectly priceless!), well, that is a whole other kettle of fish that at this time, I do not have time to fry.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to share!

Giving Pause For A Cause: Yep, it's a double standard. Self-made men are wonderful while self-made women are not (if they are conservative). Check out the political cartoons on my blog - especially the Palin cartoon that makes a pointed issue of the cost of Obama's campaign (and all that is not said) plus a few things used to ridicule Sarah (moose stew, rednecks, 150K on clothes, etc.) . Unfair? You betcha! You might also check out the Lincoln vs Obama cartoon (It's a caption contest) and the wonderful Thrill Thermometer offered by Chris Matthews....
