Race Card 101

What's meant by the term, "race card"? I hear it so often, but am not 100% certain of what folks mean when they say it. Does it mean someone mentions the racial-tinge of a situation? Or, does it mean the person using it is trying to get an advantage? All help will be appreciated.

It means that people bring up their race any time you don't agree with them. Whether they are black, white, japanesse, chinesse, some people feel the need to bring race up anytime people don't agree with them. Not all mind you but some. It's just like this other post that I read on yahoo buzz where the mom had a prayer for her "black" child headed to school. Not her child headed to school her "black" child. That is the race card. When I pray for my family I don't say protect my "native american" mother or my "german" father. Some people even if you have no problem with their race but don't agree with what their saying and they still call you racist. Some people the minute you disagree with anything they say you are racist. That's playing the race card.

Example of pulling the race card. I live in an apt. complex. There are 12 units to a section. Accross the way, there is a 14yo african amer. & a yound white girl mugging up all over each other on the stoop. I didn't say anything then, although, their behavior should have been behind closed doors, not on the front stoop. There are younger children in this complex that these parents of this pair could teach their children what is appropriate behavior in public. I went to the store & when I returned now they are in the parking lot muggin up on each other. I told them to "Get a room" The african american boy's mom was in the car waiting for him to load up. She pipes up & calls me a racist. It had nothing to do with the color of these peoples' skin, "Get a room" has not one thing to do with race. I don't care if they were pink with purple pokadots; their BEHAVIOR WAS TOTALLY OUT OF LINE for the place they were at. THAT'S PULLING THE RACE CARD. Obviously, this mother's moral values are very LOW on the totem pole.

Another example: Obama concerning the black professor & the white cop. He didn't even know all the facts, at his own admission; yet he made the statement that the cop was stupid. Ex. The SC senator who called Obama a liar. He did lie about it as he has lied to the people of this country consistently. Racism will never end until we all become Americans, not african americans, latinos, mexicans, & we see ourselves as Americans of different heritages. I am irish & french, but I don't call myself an irish/french american, I am an american.

    Jo-Anne,

We talked about excessive multiple posts earlier today. C'mon now! :))

Example number one: I get what you're saying.

Example number two: IMO, I don't think Obama pulled the "race-card" - I think he pulled the "stupid" card... As soon as I heard him say that he didn't have all the facts, I was like, "So, you wanna keep your trap shut until you do?" Seriously.

I disagree with your last statement though. I think America should be strong enough to handle people however they choose to identify themselves. I view us more as a "quilt" rather than a "melting pot"....

Thanks for posting! *just watch it on the "re-posting!! lol*

Oh, about Joe Wilson (R-Sc): my issue with him was not what he said, but his lack of decorum. Regardless of whether or not I agree with him, the fact remains that he was NOT the recognized speaker. Had the occasion been a town hall or some other open forum, I'd have still disagreed with WHAT he said, but I'd have had no problem with HOW he said it. How he performed wouldn't have flown at a high school student government meeting. It's sad to think that there are some who think it should have flown at the highest level of elected US government.

Well,we meet once again Memphis Native. I was wondering what took you so long to slither back in. Question #1- Are you a politician? or #2- Are you just a s**t stirrer? Question #1 stupid of me to assume but I had to take a shot!LOL! It seems to me that everytime you show up and type one of your interestingly stupid and LOL seemingly idiotic ways of trying to make the rest of us look as ignorant as you are the whole world laughs at YOU. Is this the only way that you know how to have an intelligent conversation? AWW what's the matter? Won't the people that actually know you come out and play? LOL! Watch out shiners the claws are about to come out!! Ready for a good laugh!

Marijo, slither bk in? WTH does that mean? And was there some cogent point you were actually trying to make? If so, I completely missed it but concede that being ADD can certainly present its' share of challenges. Have you got some old tapes playing or gotten your hindqtrs kicked before by MN?

I challenge you to tell us all of any other blogger who makes their pt more eloquently and articulately than MN (who sure as hell doesn't need me to fight her battles)? If you write half as were as she does, then linguistically you're doing great.

    Marijo,

Your rancor is showing. What is it about me that upsets you to such a degree?

    Hey Tedster,

Thank you for your kind words. The level of rancor is surprising in the sense that reading/responding is optional and voluntary. People respond differently to different situations, I suppose. Oh, well...

BTW, we're one day closer to the weekend!! :))
