Rapper Pharrell growing his skin in test tubes to cover tattoos

When people end up with ridiculous tattoos they regret, like this insane depiction of Judge Judy, or their exes name scrawled across their butt, they either live with it, cover it up, or get laser removal. But not Pharrell Williams! The rapper and Neptunes producer has opted to have new skin grow in a test tube and graft it onto his body to cover up embarrassing artwork. "There's an institute called the Wake Forest Institute in North Carolina for Regenerative Skin Treatment," says Pharrell. "It's going to be pricey, but … it's worth it. I got fire on my arms, I don't need fire on my arms! I'm a grown man." Hmm, we didn’t realize kids got tattoos of flames up their arms! Williams explains, "It's basically like getting a skin graft, but you're not taking skin from your a-- or legs - these guys actually grow the skin for you. When it has healed you can go get whatever tattoo you want." Oh cool, then you can just start all over again!

Is it just us, or is this new procedure disgusting and insane? [NY Daily News]

Here's a novel concept: don't get an arm load of tattoos. Or anywhere else for that matter. What may have started on your neck, may end up elsewhere as gravity takes over.

this is stupid. he is really gonna have skin grafts so he can get a better, more "grown man" tattoo. Red Foreman would say, "Dumbass!"

Sounds painful. They can't just lay new skin over your top layer. What are they going to do, slice the other one off? For a tattoo? You think he'd learn from his mistakes and not get more tattoos that are just going to grow boring like the last ones. As you get older, your tastes change.

I don't really care about the tattoo part but it sounds like something my daughter could have done. She had 40% of her body burned off from a wreck and she had her own skin removed to help cover up parts of her body but that left terrible scars as the removal was too deep and left scars from her knees up to her thighs.

What a flipping idiot. I cannot even imagine how much money this would cost. Burn victims and so forth...that money could be better spent to help others. Get real. I KNOW someone in his life said, "Are you sure you want to do this to yourself?" before he got those tats he now hates. He needs a reality check. Changing skin just do get a NEW tat is the epitome of stupidity.

Truth is this: It's his money and he'll spend it on new skin if he wants to; no matter how much we'd rather he spend his millions on items of our choice. So fine, name-call, ridicule and hate all you want but remember this: It's a free country, if you can't pay to have your skin grown for you in the US, then where else on earth would it happen?

I don't think he understands how skin grafts look after the graft. They are usually bumpy and scarred looking. They can be very tender, so he may not want to tattoo over them. I dunno about this one. Maybe he should check this out a little more!
