If you're like me and live in a small apartment in Brooklyn, books are your frenimies. I love owning books and seeing my collection grow over the years, but they also tend to take over my shelving space and, much like tribbles, seem to multiply exponentially right before my very eyes, creating piles on my kitchen table, living room floor, desk, and nightstand.

Amazon's Kindle made news lately as being the ultimate space saver in literature, but I actually like paper and flipping pages! Instead of succumbing to technology, I've found two great alternatives, so I can declutter my life and save money -- the old-fashioned way.

Bookmooch and Paperback Swap are two great web sites where you can exchange your books with other people. You simply mail out your books to people who request them, and in return, you get credits so you can also receive books.

There are some books that you'll want to keep forever, but let's admit it -- who bought Eat, Pray, Love and would like to get rid of it?
