Rediscovering what I Love!

Having been married for ten years (together for a total of 12), I am quite happily half way through my divorce (well, happy and GETTING divorced don’t really go together, but I’m happy the process is half over).  Part of the process for me has been working on rediscovering life and self…to that end, a friend gave me a yellow beach cruiser (bicycle) for my birthday this year (so I’ve had it since April).   I don’t have a car, so this bike and my own two feet (and public transit) are how I get around town.  I have found that I absolutely LOVE this bicycle.  I love to ride it to get places and simply for the JOY of riding it!!

Eventually I will have to get some sort of motorized transportation (mainly for work)….but I have to be honest, I’m not looking forward to it. Driving really stresses me out (in town driving that is, I don’t mind driving on the interstate and/or for long trips).  I’m contemplating a scooter…time will tell and likely in the next six months since advancement in my current job requires some sort of vehicle that goes vroom.  I’m not really digging the idea of HAVING to get a car or scooter though…then it’s not a choice and I really find riding my bicycle to be, well…pretty groovy.

I have contemplated getting a “better” bicycle, but really have no idea if that’s a good idea or not.  I ride my beach cruiser at lot (though no off road-ing…it’s just not built of that) and several people have told me I’d be happier with a bike that has gears or is designed to be more versatile.  Perhaps they are right, but I really know nothing about bikes (period)…except to note that they can be quite pricey.  I’m not sure I want to put money into a “better” bike without knowing anything at all about them and/or how well a match it might be for my current and future needs.

I’m hesitant to go into a bike shop for fear that they’ll really only be interested in selling to me, not in helping me make an informed decision.  So…for now, I’m going to settle for doing some online research and see where that takes me.
