rejected on the runway

now, when i fly i have a pretty normal routine. i never check bags. i always check in online. and i fly southwest so i can always ensure myself a window rather than an aisle.

i always grab a blanket and close my eyes. i'm not a talker, cryer, or complainer and won't overdue the perfume either.

and usually, i need to catch a man's eye to help me lift my little bag up high.

and i've never had any trouble with this.

until my last flight.

traveling from chicago to houston to harlingen, i discovered that some men don't want to lift a finger (literally) to assist a lady.

most of the time i don't even need to come out and ask. i'm simply offered assistance and someone steps forward to lift my bag. this time, i asked the men in the three seats near mine if someone would help me with my bag. the one i looked at straight in the eye stared right back at me and didn't move. so another gentleman (let's say 15 yrs older and 30 lbs lighter) stood up and put my bag up for me.

i'm thinking: okay. he just didn't move fast enough. and grace i gave.

then the flight ended.

now, i had made friends with the two to my left and they were party of the party tom was in (i learned his name early in this flight). so the flight lands and tom's friends tell him to get my bag down. and tom doesn't do a thing. they raz him. he still doesn't move. so the same gentleman that put the bag up got the bag down. and at this point i was ready to raz tom too.

and i said

i'd probably have had a better chance getting tom to help me if i'd bought him a drink or two.

no joke.

tom replied

"it would have gone a long way to it, yes"

i've been rejected lots of times in lots of ways. but this was a first i won't soon forget.

if you fly with tom, tell him i said "thanks".

Wow, unbelievable. That is really bad manners. How rude.

Hope your other flights in the future make up for it.

How rude. I remember when the guys would open the door for women, pull out their chairs, stand up and offer their seats on a busy bus. Gee, I feel old.

I wouldn't consider it being rejected- I would just consider him a pompous *ss... stupid jerk! If I ever am faced with Tom on a flight, I will get my back down myself and throw it at him.

Can you believe that? why do we keep making people like that? We have got to find that DNA link and throw it away! Then duplicate the guy who did help you!!! Stupid Tom. What a jerk.
