Ricky Martin: scorned for having kids
editor
Everybody’s favorite bon-bon shaker
recently announced that like
"American Idol" star Clay Aiken a surrogate mother birthed his
twin boys. In this day and age, we’d hardly
consider that “Livin’ La Vida
Loca,†but Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez of Honduras
is less than trilled at the example he’s set.
"What Martin did diminishes the dignity of a human
being,†says Rodriguez. “You can't
just buy or rent life. It's even worse when someone famous and in
the public eye is doing it." Boy, we don’t even
want to know what he’d say about
Brangelina!
The Cardinal isn’t the only one who thinks Ricky
Martin has sinned—Mexican talk show host Esteban
Arce agrees. “He’s a
degenerate, and I feel sorry for those kids,†he says.
“I don’t think
it’s right to deny children of maternal figures,
just because you have a big ego. These kids are going to be raised
without mothers."
Hmm, we can't help but wonder if Ricky's often-questioned sexuality is the underlying target of ridicule. [

I wish Ricky all the best with his little family. I am sure that he will give them the best in life, including a lot of love. I would hope so....
We can all sit here and make comments for or against him for what he has done, but that is not our call. I just wish them all well.

I agree with Diane, as long as the children are raised with love and strong morals who are we to say that this is wrong. So many birth mother and fathers have children on there own and treat them like crap. Just because you are the biological parent doesnt make you a good one.

What's funny is that these are the same religious figures who would give an unmarried mother a hard time for NOT having a baby once she was pregnant.
You can't feel that a single mother is a positive thing (as opposed to abortion) and then criticize a single father. He knows what he's doing and he has the financial stability to take care of his kids. Personally, I think Ricky HAS a partner to raise these kids with, and he's just not ready to share the fact with the world.

well it doesn't surprise me that machismo is still felt strongly in Latin America. that traditional role for the male to provide for his wife and children. ricky has never revealed his sexual orientation and shouldn't have to. it's his private business and these people shouldn't dictate to him or anyone how to live their lives. many Latino men aren't great fathers, many leave their wives and kids, many don't support their children financially or emotionally but he'll be considered a "man." There are also many men raising their children today minus a mom. many are heterosexual and many aren't. And so long as their children are loved and content and not lacking a mother - figure... what's the problem?
Jodie Foster came to mind when reading this blog. she has two sons in fact, and she's never revealed their father's identity. she's also never disclosed her sexual orientation. and why should she?
I'm sure Ricky has many female family members and friends that will provide his kids with a woman-figure, so to speak. however, if his kids are content and well-adjusted who in the (h_ll) is anyone to say different.
i wish him and his children the best and hope he continues to keep his private life to himself - he doesn't need negative righteous thinking people to dictate their forever worthless views on being macho especially in todays society.

Oh good grief, you don't NEED two parents to raise a kid. Kids raised by single parents, rich, poor, or middle class, will be just fine. There is nothing wrong with having a child, adopting a child, having one via a surrogate mother, etc. etc. if you are single. Single people should not be punished or deprived of being parents because they are single. It's better for someone to be single instead of being stuck in a marriage with someone they don't love, or worse being in an abusive marriage. Why should someone settle for less than they deserve if they haven't found Mr. or Ms. Right?

I think he did something very special. I think it is wonderful to see a MAN feel like his clock was ticking so he decides to have a family whether a "mother" was going to be there or not. Women do it all the time nowadays (single parenting), it's nice to see a man having a heart! Who cares whether he is gay or straight! He wanted children and that's it. Good Luck to him and those kids are lucky to have him! He is a great person.

that comment about just buying or renting life? hogwash! if a person wants to give love to a child and adopt or surrogate, great!! it's so much better than all the babies being left in dumpsters or locked in closets. why do we judge when someone wants to give love?
