I am not a big fan of boats but I still have a vivid memory of visiting the replica of the Santa Maria, one of Christopher Columbus’ boats in Barcelona. I remember thinking how small they were. Same with Sir Francis Drake’s boat in London. They almost look like ‘toys’ and you find it unbelievable that they were crossing oceans in such small vessels. You feel even more admirative of this courageous sailors once you see their boats replicas.

Two beautiful ships will be docking in San Francisco this Thursday around 5:00 pm: the ‘Lady Washington’ and the ‘Hawaiian Chieftain’. They will be at Pier 40 from February 19 th to March 5 th . and will be available for touring and sailing in the Bay Area till March 12 th (Oakland, Sausalito, and Redwood City)

Once you know that the ship Lady Washington that was featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, there is no turning back. You have to go!!!

A nice range of sailing adventures is offered and I know for sure that some little ones will recycle their Halloween costumes if they are lucky enough to participate in one of these great trips.

You can choose between:

- Battle sail, that the website describes as a three-hour action-packed recreation of an 18th-century naval action with cannon fire and close-quarters maneuvers.
- Adventure Sail: A three-hour family-oriented sail with demonstrations of tall ship handling, sea shanty signing, and maritime storytelling.
- Sunset Sail: A three-hour evening experience similar to an Adventure Sail.
- Passage: An authentic tall ship trip from one port of call to another.
- Dockside Tour: A walk-on tour of our ships at the dock. $3 donation per person suggested.
