♫Sisters are doing it for themselves♪--Standing on their own two feet and ringing on their own bells--♪sisters are doing it for themselves♫
I guess I am dating myself somewhat when I open with this musical tribute to the power of women. But I could not get the song out of my head after I saw the program offering technology grants to women entitled: "Systers Pass-It On Grant Program."
The Anita Borg Institute is sponsoring the Systers Pass-It-On Grants, which are meant to encourage women to pursue and work in computing. The grants ($500-1,000) are for women who need financial assistance for themselves or for group projects that target women in technology. Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2008 grant cycle and are due by October 26th
The Anita Borg Institute provides resources and programs to help
industry, academia, and government recruit, retain, and develop
women leaders in high-tech fields, resulting in higher levels of
technological innovation. ABI programs serve high-tech women by
creating a community and providing tools to help them develop their
careers. ABI is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 charitable
organization
