SmartPower SmartTip of the Week: Get the LED out!

So you want to continue to be your Energy Smart self this holiday season, and you’re now thinking about new ways to save energy like you never did before.

The problem:  You still want to celebrate the holidays with traditional decorative lights just like you always have, but feel compromised by using all of that energy.

The solution:  If you’re going to the store to buy new holiday lights this month, do your wallet--and the planet—a favor buy purchasing the LED holiday lights that are available virtually everywhere.

These LED lights are great because they use just 10% of the energy consumed by the older, out-dated style lights, and they last way longer.  While they may cost a little more up front, that cost is more than made up for by your energy savings and the ability to use those lights over and over again for years to come.

And consider this, the U.S. Department of Energy has said that if all Americans switched over to LED holiday lights, we would save the energy equivalent to what’s used by 200,000 homes!

It just goes to show that by each of us doing our part and getting smarter about the energy we use, we help ourselves, our nation and the whole planet by saving money, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.

Be sure to check out the SmartPower Blog for more great tips and stories about how to get Energy Smart.
