A Rave for BBC!
This is really cool – BBC News is embarking on a unique and grand project to track the ordinary life of an ordinary shipping container as it circumnavigates the globe. Think of putting a letter in a bottle, then throwing it in the ocean, but on a grander scale.
The project plans to bring us the story of how our countries interact through international trade, and will show how globalization impacts us all.
It will be challenging to pull this off, considering all of the techno details required to make this work. Viewers can track the container via BBC News’ website to see at any moment where the container is in the world. Another hindrance to this project would be if the container fell overboard. BBC News says it could happen; it happens all the time.
Because the container will be traveling along with random cargo, its destinations will be determined by what goods are packed next to it and to where those goods are being shipped. This way we can see what goods are be shipped where, possibly why, and also at what times of the year.
Stay tuned.
