The Rational Behind Establishing Goals of E Learning

Trainers, educators, instructors, and learners everywhere are all
raving about the efficacy, convenience and speed with which they
are able to learn through the process of e learning. Many
have attested that courses have been significantly shortened and
made even easier to complete, trainers giving training seminars
have reported dramatic increases in successfully completed
sessions, instructors are reporting better evaluations, and people
in general are quite pleased with the outcome of the e learning
solutions they have committed to, saying the entire process was by
far better than going to a classroom like environment to learn what
they needed to learn. While these claims in no way debases
the classroom environment nor does it promote e learning over
accredited and legitimate school courses, the results do tend to
speak well about the efficacy of e learning. Adult courses
catering to those who have not completed their degree courses are
looking more and more into utilizing e learning to compliment their
curriculum, primarily since most adults prefer a measure of privacy
and would rather forego the typical exposure to a classroom
environment offered by some institutions catering to adult
learning. While all of these may be well and good for all, e
learning in itself is quite the information overload, especially if
it is not tailored to whatever specific knowledge or skill is
needed by the one learning. The entire learning process can
go any which way if it is not properly guided by particulars made
to define the parameters of the entire learning exercise. The
entire e learning process should first be customized to whatever
specifics and requirements are needed to maximize the entire
learning experience, instead of bombarding the learner with
knowledge which may not even prove to be useful to them, or even
relevant to their needs.
Just like traditional practices in the academe, e learning should
also be guided by a set criterion, and more importantly, there
should be specific behavioral objectives guiding the entire
planning of the coverage of the e learning exercise. This
guide will then allow the trainer to predict a foreseeable outcome
of the training exercise and therefore establish baseline
expectations to determine if the direction the e learning module
was pointed at was the right one, and if it was maximized, or if it
could have been planned better.
By doing a projection of expected outcome of the e learning
exercise, a point of comparison can be made where the actual
results can later be measured against, and from there determine if
indeed the e learning exercise was tailored to allow the learners
to acquire the skills and knowledge for a set goal. The
behavioral objectives help to establish certain observable traits
in the learner that is expected to help them in achieving the
projected goals in their work. This is done by fostering the
development of traits to improve their ability to do their daily
tasks, curb habits that are counter-productive, and establish an
outlook that is not only beneficial to them at the work place, but
also in their lives in general.
