The votes are in...did we make the right decision?

Although I have expressed disgust over this years election, I was very pleased with the outcome. Barack Obama overwhelming won the presidency with 338 electoral votes while John McCain only received 141. It takes 270 electoral votes to win.

The initial stories about the election left me unsure about who the American people were going to vote for. I was concerned that people would base their votes on race alone. I’m still not positive that they didn‘t do just that. It is a possibility and I certainly don’t have some secret link to what’s in each individuals mind.

But I can hope. I pray that people voted for the person that they thought would run our country the right way. And I pray that they didn’t let their personal feelings about race interfere in their decisions.

Obama has promised to restore our economy by creating new jobs and implementing tax cuts for the middle class. He says children come first and that he will make sure our schools have adequate funding. He wants to invest in alternative fuels and renewable energy. And he promises to end the war in Iraq.

I believe he is just what this country needs. I will be watching to see if he proves me right or wrong. Whichever it is, history was made last night and I’m proud to have been here to witness it.

Wholeheartedly agree with you. I think the message was clear, change is needed and in all honesty I think that hunger for change drove this result more than race. No matter the percentage of blacks, whites, hispanics that tilted to Obama, the change is for all Americans, not one segment or another. Its a huge mess this man is being handed, I just hope America is patient enough and supportive enough to allow him bring that change.

SB1, your whit and clever NOBAMA statements are bit tired at this point. Scoreboard, its over, and your anger is irrelevant. He undoubtedly can't put America in any worse position than she is at this moment, thanks to the great experience and leadership of the last 8 years. Thank goodness for a new day.

Obama has a lot of promises he is going to have to keep. Can he keep them? God please help our country. He was only a jr. senator, hasn't been in office for very long, hasn't voted on much, this isn't time for on the job training, but now we have to deal with it and see what happenes.

Any elected official offers a platform, and we can only hope they deliver. Obama didn't just say what he needed to say, I believe he said what he felt the country truly needs. Unfortunately others said alot of negative things about him to divide people and to win votes. He is above all a man trying to to improve the country, no different from McCain would have, and you're right DLS, we will see what happens, but he has to be given an opportunity first instead of all this doom and gloom that we've been sold in this election hoopla.

Somewhere N Irag- I agree with you. I have dubbed politics Politic-off's, because of all the negative stuff. We have enough of that going around. It's a lot to take on, but hey, I spent many days fasting and praying for God's will to be done, and if this is who He wants, then so be it. But, like you said, he needs to be given an opportunity. As the saying goes "Give peas a chance" :)
