Although I have expressed disgust over this years election, I was very pleased with the outcome. Barack Obama overwhelming won the presidency with 338 electoral votes while John McCain only received 141. It takes 270 electoral votes to win.
The initial stories about the election left me unsure about who the American people were going to vote for. I was concerned that people would base their votes on race alone. I’m still not positive that they didn‘t do just that. It is a possibility and I certainly don’t have some secret link to what’s in each individuals mind.
But I can hope. I pray that people voted for the person that they thought would run our country the right way. And I pray that they didn’t let their personal feelings about race interfere in their decisions.
Obama has promised to restore our economy by creating new jobs and implementing tax cuts for the middle class. He says children come first and that he will make sure our schools have adequate funding. He wants to invest in alternative fuels and renewable energy. And he promises to end the war in Iraq.
I believe he is just what this country needs. I will be watching to see if he proves me right or wrong. Whichever it is, history was made last night and I’m proud to have been here to witness it.
