Things We Don’t Get: Name Tattoos

If you thought Mariah Carey’s one-month old relationship ending in marriage was the only hasty move she’s made recently then you’re wrong. Before the wedding she got “Mrs. Cannon” tattooed on her back. "One thing (few people) knew was we got tattoos a few weeks earlier. So anyone who saw my tattoo wasn't surprised," she says. "To me rings are special and exciting, but tattoos mean more than anything. They're forever and ever," says Cannon, who has "Mariah" tattooed on his back.

What is wrong with you people? Are you the same ones who carved Mrs. ___ onto your desks in school after going on one date? At least learn from the example of others. Here are our top 10 favorite failed tattoo relationships:

1) Angelina Jolie – Had then-husband “Billy Bob” tattooed on her arm which she later had erased and tattooed over with the Earth’s coordinates of where her four children (Including daughter with boyfriend Brad Pitt, Shiloh) were born. He also has an “H” on her wrist for ex-bf Timothy Hutton, though she now claims it stands for her brother, James Haven.

2) Johnny Depp – He changed his ink from “Winona Forever” (for ex-fiancée Winona Ryder) to “Wino Forever.” At least he has a sense of humor!

3) Pam Anderson – She has “Tommy” (for hubby #1 Tommy Lee) tattooed on her ring finger which she later changed to “Mommy.” She contracted Hepatitis C from sharing a tattoo needle with him.

4) Tommy Lee – When they were dating, Pam made him change his “Heather” (for ex-wife Heather Locklear) tattoo to “eather.” Unfortunately, as far as we know, Tommy will always have fond memories of the sextape he made with Pam, everytime he looks at the word “Pamela” written on his penis.

5) Paris Hilton & Nick Carter – He wrote “Paris” on his wrist and she wrote “Nick” on her right butt cheek. She got his removed while he covered his with a skull and the phrase, “Old Habits Die Hard.” Ha!

6) Tom Arnold – Has a huge picture of Roseanne Barr on his chest, “Rosey” on his butt cheek and two other Roseanne Tattoos. She covered her ink stating “Property of Tom” on her upper thigh with another tattoo.

7) Dave Navarro – Has “C E” written on his chest for ex-wife Carmen Electra.

8) Jude Law – Wrote Beatles lyrics on his arm that said, “You came along to turn on everything, Sexy Sadie,” for then-wife Sadie Frost. It has since been removed.

9) Eddie Murphy & Scary Spice – Three days into their relationship the couple exchanged name tattoos in each other’s handwriting. She told Larry King on his show,"You don't tattoo somebody's name on your body if it's brief and unimportant, let's put it that way." Romance fades, tats are forever!" They split after five months.

10) Beyonce and Jay-Z – They just got matching “IV” tattoos on their ring fingers symbolizing their lucky number and the day they got married, 4.4.08. Fingers crossed this romance lasts!

You really need to re-read this. It says she where it should be he and vice versa ... very confusing. A little editing is needed!!! However, yes tattooed names are like branding to me, and a curse. I'll wait until about 20 years of marriage to think about that tattoo ... wait, by then I'll be old enough to know better ... wait, I guess I'm old enough to know better now! Have fun with those nasty coverups and laser removal treatments!!!

I am one of them....yes got his name on me. Thank God its tiny any know notices it...except the new boy friend..who doesn't really like it. So I say don't do it, even when you think it well last forever...it just doesn't always.

And when you're 80? Ink can sink. Nothin' says beauty like a faded greenish tatt that's 2 inches lower than where it was 20 yrs. earlier. PS If you have to have your kids stats tatted, maybe you shouldn't have kids.

My husband and I have matching tattoos, but our tats symbolize our birthday (yes, we share a birthday) so they would be meaningful to us individually as well as a couple. I like Beyonce and Jay-Z's tattoos for the same reason. Name tattoos are another story, entirely.

All my tatoos have meaning... I don't like the idea of having my husbands name tatooed on me, but I am going to get something symbolic for him. I have a rose that represents the time I had with my ex (gone now, decided to commit suicide) I want to get wilted. I'm going to have a new rose and two rosebuds added for my husbad and two sons. My first- borns name is tatooed on my arm, I'm going to have my second sons name added after he's born. To the person who said "If you have to have your kids stats tatted, maybe you shouldn't have kids." - grow the f*ck up. Tatoos don't have a single damn thing to do with weather someone's a good parent or not.
