Report Abusehey KarlaH, I have had some experance with the ADHD thing...my ex: husband has it. went all his life without knowing what it was, and he suffered greatly for it and didnt know how to handel himself in public esp under stress.
my step daughter has it. I have looked into almost every treatment for this. go with your gut...you know your child and want the best treatment for him.
as long as your "not wanting meds" isnt because of status reasons.
I have heard some good things about bio feedback, however this also would be a long term treatment.
some meds do work, get the lowest dose poss. what he eats will have an effect also. I could always tell when the ex had a soda...ugh!
being understanding, working with him, realizing he cant take in a lot of information at once...poss not public school but home school would be the best for him. keep him in a social group, but more one on one study is really great.
study about this - look into a lot of treatments and go with your gut..love on your son...Im sure you are. look up famos ppl with this same thing.
best wishes to you.

Report AbuseI am so upset with all the meds too. My son is 8 years old and has been on many different meds. He is very smart but he has a hard time focusing and sitting still. The school told me if he isnt on the meds then he will go back to resource. Which is crap he doesnt have a learning disability. When I told his teacher that he would be off the meds for a day because of some issues with changes and speaking with the dr you had the nerve to say " is there anyway to prevent that in the future" Well why dont the teachers stop thinking every child has to be perfect thats a start. I told her my concern is for my childs health and while we are trying to find out what works for him there is no way to prevent that. I also told her the only reason he is on the meds is for the school advantage! I wish there was a legal recourse on this because it would be taken!
