User post: 10 Most Powerful Women On Television

I admit it! I watch too much television.. but when I do, I particularly enjoy watching shows where women "kick butt". Shows where women have strong leadership roles, powerful characters, steal the scenes and (at times) tell the men what to do.

My favorite show on television right now is Damages which stars Glenn Close. If you haven't watched that show it's a must see. The writing is top notch. The plot lines are riveting. And Glenn's character, a high profile lawyer, steals every scene. She exudes confidence.

My second favorite is Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan on Dexter. She plays a feisty cop who, like Glenn steals every scene.

I can't stand Close's character on Damages. I tried to watch it a few times. The final time involved her belittling her female employee for a mistake she made. Sounded like a big mistake but just the same, I didn't care for it. You can be tough and competent without being a rude b*tch. Generally, I like her roles and the characters she plays but this one is out of line. She was great in Air Force One and the paper but she's always that character you seem to love to hate.

From your list, I like Kyra from the closer, Emily from bones (I like this one a lot, probably my favorite this year), Marg on CSI is definitely top dog. She is great. I also like the gal who plays Cuddy on House. I can't think of the name of the character but the black lady on CSI: Miami who does the autopsies, she's good. I love Gertz on Still Standing, hot, smart and has spunk. I'd like to see the guy be tougher and smarter, but she was a great choice for the role. Elliot and Carla from Scrubs are both awesome. Especially once Elliot gained a mind of her own and started standing up for herself. My absolute favorite though has got to be Roseanne. Tough, intelligent, took no crap, no holds barred. She scared the crap out of me but she could knock any of these other ladies down without delivaring a single punch. Jeez, almost forgot margaret "hot-lips" houlahan from MASH. I couldn't stand her during the frank episodes but post-frank she really pulled through and matured a great deal.

I have never seen Damages, when and where is it on?

I really like the Starter Wife with Debra Messing, but I cant seem to find that anywhere on TV. I dont have alot of time on my hands.

If I had to pick one woman on TV period, it would have to be Ellen Degeneres, OMG shes fantastic!

I have to say, I am really loving Sun from Lost this time around. She grew some "balls", and is starting to become a real powerhouse on screen. I also love Chloe and Lois from Smallville, and Betty from Ugly Betty. I think they are all amazing, complex characters that really make TV worth watching.

TOtally agree with listing President Allison Taylor from 24. She's strong and stands her ground. Decisive even when she's frightened or upset. Powerful, yet feminine without being girly. Good role model for women.
