VP Debate Last Night

Well, hats off to Sarah Palin for doing well last night.  She regurgitated her lines so beautifully that for one moment, I thought they were her original thoughts.  Joe Biden on the other hand... his words rolled right off his tongue.  I believe in most of what he said.  I had faith in his stances and he neglected to use all the half truths that Palin did.  Her winking to the camera and often saying "gotcha", and "oh, I dunno" were cute, but I'm sorry I cannot defend her as a a qualified VP candidate.

I maintain that Barack and Joe will be an awesome team to lead our country out of the many crisis' we're in today. I maintain that McCain and Palin will represent another 4 years of Bush... or worse.

My issues are this...

We are fighting someone else's war in the middle East.  We need to end it.

Our economy is so far down the tubes that I'm glad I still rent and stopped paying into my investments a year ago.  I believe our country needs to stop rewarding (in a sense) Wall St. and focus on the middle class....and though both sides are arguing they can do that better, I believe the Democrats relate better to middle class America and are further away from being elitists than McCain and his 8 mansions.

I believe that homosexual couples when just as in love as any heterosexual couple should be given the right to join in a union.  Whether it be a marrige labled by their house of worship or a civil union as described by the government, I don't think the right to join and build a family should be forbidden... or even just "tolerated" like Palin says.

I believe in foreign oil independence.  I also believe oil is not the only means for energy.  Windmills, solar energy, clean coal... and NO MORE DRILLING.

The debate was good last night... not gonna lie.  I watched all of it, not just the first 30 minutes like the Presidential debate.  But in the end I have to back my Dems still.  My heart tells me they are more in touch with me and my class and have a clearer vision of what to improve and how to improve it.

In response to a few of your comments:

"I believe the Democrats relate better to middle class America" - Let us not forget that Obama made $4.8 Million last year. This is the high side of Middle Class America in my world! The Democrats want to take from everyone earning over the poverty level and support those who choose not to work.

"Windmills, solar energy, clean coal" - Your VP candidate, Biden, has stated there is no such thing as clean coal.

"We are fighting someone else's war in the middle East" - If Obama becomes our president, don't worry! We will not be fighting someone else's war in the Middle East, we'll be fighting it in Africa! Obama has not truely separated from the radical teachings of his church, you can expect our country to be torn asunder as instead of equal rights, caucasions become the oppressed.

And no quotes necessary, Biden himself stated he and Obama are against gay marriage so this is pointless as an issue since NEITHER side supports it.

He did say he is against the Marriage of two same sex people, however said that the church can deem it a marriage if they want. In reality, all those married today are in a civil union and are deemed married because of the church they were joined in. Palin soooo twisted Biden's word with regard to his and her response. You must have left the room during that.

The clean coal thing.. another twist on words. That comment was taken out of context and he was referring to China and their dirty coal.

I'm glad for Obama for making so much money last year. He deserves it. He has worked his way up the ladder and sets a wonderful example of what all Americans should strive for.

With regard to Iran, Iraq and Darfur.... the Middle East has been fighting a holy war for 700 years. I don't understand how McCain and Bush think that we can end that. Darfur on the other hand is a land where thousands of people are killed each day. For what? It's a military conflict driven by environmental issues, overpopulation, lack of resources. I understand that American may be able to do good in that area when given the chance.

And your comment regarding caucasians being oppressed... gimme a break. Color doesn't matter!! Just because Barack is black (oh, and white too) does not mean he will be on a personal mission to wipe out whites. Puhleazze!

Wow. That is unbelievable. I mean wow. I’ve met some dumb people in my life, but YOU really amaze me. I doubt I will ever come across a better example of pure, unadulterated stupidity. Thanks for the experience, but next time save it for your weekly KKK meeting.

Oh, I love me some Joe Biden, even more so after the debate!!

Sarah Palin gets a gold star for not effing it up to hell last night. There were times when she did well and other times where she just threw out buzz words and catch phrases to avoid actually having to answer the question. She would have done a heck of a lot better if John McCain wasn't so hard to defend.

As for the first comment on this post, all the candidates in this election are well beyond the middle class. Dems don't want to give the impoverished a free ride. They want to give them the tools to not be so impoverished. Unless you've worked with people within the depths of the poverty level or have been there yourself, you have no idea how that works. I have been in that depths personally and professionally. To say the poor are lazy and therefore should do not deserve resources is crass. I used the social service resources not for a free ride, but to feed myself and my kid and to have a way out of the hole of horrible circumstances.

As long as I'm on wealth and poverty, let me tell you that my wealth has shrunk considerably in the Bush economy. While our incomes and spending habits stayed the same, the cost of everything has risen. In my household that brings in over 5,000 a month, we struggle. Middle class seems to be the new poor lately... In my middle class neighborhood of professional families, everyone is worried about making ends meet this winter because of the cost of heating their homes.

According to numerous fact-checks on that "no such thing as clean coal", that is a sound-byte taken out of context. If you watch the whole exchange beyond the sound-byte, he talking about exporting clean coal technology to China, because they are polluting our country along with theirs. We do not live a bubble. And why trust sound-bytes?

Your kidding? Caucasians being oppressed? Are you not beyond racial digs? That's really extremist thinking and that's what we've been sold for the last 8 years. Everyone is out to get us. No one understands what our country is doing. We are doing the Christian thing. We've been living under a religious right regime. Fear and intolerance is what distracted while the GOP administration was busy taking away civil liberties and ruining our economy.

The war in Iraq is a mess. Period. It needs to be fixed, vets need to be taken care of and that's not happening now. As for Darfur, well honey, no one once said going to war. Biden talked about lending help to African forces because of the horrible genocide taking place, if we have the resources to do that.

If John McCain admitted to cannabilism, Stepfordmom would gleefully applaud.

Palin coughed up her lines and only stuttered a few times while fumbling through her notes. What amazed me is when she didn't know the answer about health care, she just started talking about taxes. I'm disappointed that Ifill let her get away with that. That wasn't the only time she did that. Couric did a better job of holding her feet to the fire.

hahaha, rockin mom. Biden WAS awesome. Sarah did okay, but it was more memorizing lines than anything. Maybe she should pursue a career in acting...?

    Care, well said...

Buttabisket, you are too funny. A KKK meeting is probably where Stepfordmom is on her way to.

Springtime, how many times did she preface the answer to a question, "well I'd like to go back to the Energy argument..."

Gwen was trying to get answers to additional questions, not repetition of the same answer to a question 15 minutes ago.
