Report AbuseAs a civilian Foriegn Sevice Veteran and someone who was there for every foriegn American Military Episode (Excepting Grenada and Panama), between 1983 and 2003 I can assure you the American People appreciate your service and dedication to duty. However Americans can be a bit fickel and self absorbed into thier own problems and although the current economic problems facing the American family are in no way an excuse for the changes you have seen, it may explain the indifference to you that you have seen lately.
However I know as a world traveler and Ambassadorial Employee that the Government should (and in a few cases does), offer special attention without a layer of crap to uniformed service personel. I hope the Homeland Security Department (Who's pathetic and self-important meddling in Foriegn Affairs is the reason I quit), does it's job more efficiently with reguard to the expiditing service members travels individually on private airways, and worry a little less about stupid little color codes nobody understands anyway.
Also let me thank you personally for your service to our nation and our freedom in a very trying and uncertain times.

Report AbuseOn a recent flight i watched something so special. I saw an American soldier (in uniform) board the plane and walk back to his seat. I then watched another man get up from his seat in First class, walk back to the soldier, thank him for his service and offer the soldier his seat. The soldier said "thank you but no" to the offer. I then watched other passengers around the soldier clap for him and encourage him to take his place in first class where he should have been assigned from the beginning. The soldier and the first class passenger then switched seats. I felt love for both men. Most do respect you and all our veterans. God bless you !
