It was a busy time of year. As we hustled to make sure our guests had what they needed, it was the one time of the year that gave me plenty of time to be thankful.
We served many low income people and the homeless population. A smile goes along way in making a person's day. This I learned when one of our guests commented on how he always saw a smile on my face. At first I wasn't sure where he was going with this comment. Soon he said that my ability to look at a person in their eyes and smile made a world of difference. He commented that although it was cold outside, it was so nice to see a smile. It warmed his heart.
I realized that I may not be able to do anything about a person's situation, but to show them respect and give them a smile. A kind word, a smile and respect go a long way.
Since then, I had to quit the most rewarding job that I ever had. Serving others was something that was instilled in me as a child. My mother was ALWAYS doing something for someone in our family or community.
Now, as I sit behind my computer, I still remember all that I have to be thankful for. My family, friends have been an enormous support to me. There are no words that can express my gratitude for these wonderful people.
I thank God everyday for things like breathing, waking up in the morning, accepting challenges and blessings that have been given to me.
And I am grateful that people have allowed me to share my smile and my laughter with them.
What are you thankful for??
May everybody have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Report AbuseFirst that I have a husband who loves me with all my faults, my child, my family, and I have been thanking God everyday since my dad got released from the hospital that he is still with us although there is still no clear answer to what is wrong with him. I am also thankful for the people I have met here on Shine who were a sounding board when I need someone to talk to. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Super A surrounded by all those you hold dear.

Report AbuseOh, SuperA, that's a long list! I thank God every night that Aaron is still with us, and will be with us for a long, long time. That I have all my boys here, under one roof once again, even if it is only for a holiday. For my wonderful, sweet husband, who puts up with me and still loves me. For my parents, who they were and what they did that made me who I am today. And my brothers, who would go to the ends of the earth to make me safe and happy. All of my extended family, who seem so happy to be together. And for my friends here on Shine, without which I'd be whimpering in a corner! And you, sweet SuperA. For showing me that no matter what, love is unconditional. Love you, hunny! Have a great Thanksgiving! GG ♥
