A few years later, our local priest expanded this theme to me. What if you give up time? How about vowing to spend more time in prayer? What about giving more time in these 40 days to serve others?
For me, I will vow not to curse the folks in traffic. I've not ever made it all the way through lent yet on that one. I've gotten to about three weeks before slipping. This year, I pray I will have the patience to succeed.....and that it becomes a new habit for the rest of the year!

Report AbuseTeachergirl,
I don't practice the Lent,
But I have been trying to keep my prayers
ongoing with Thanks instead of Please for me.
I'm trying to change it for Please the Blessings for Others and the Thanks for what I Recieve!
Things are Fantastic here and hope your not to much in Chaos!
LOVE

Report AbuseDear Teachergirl,
What a wonderful post. My grandmother ,when she was in the nursing home...her biggest love was the soaps and she would give them up for lent. We would visit and she would start to ask about her favorite soap and them remember.."Don't tell me now but be sure to remember all so you can tell me on Easter!!!" I am going to try your lenten idea and spend more time in prayer!!! Hopefully,it will become an every day habit!!! I can't give up traffic anger as someone else usually drives and I just enjoy the ride!!!
Blessings,love and hugs!!!!!
