What I research using the internet:

1.  All external and internal solutions to hot flashes.  This includes textiles, dehumidifying portable air conditioners that are virtually tankless to medications.  Presently I use Gabapentin/Neurontin at the recommended high dosage of 2400 mg. as shared with me by the major researcher of this medication.  It's an off prescription usage, to be sure.

I have suffered from hot flashes for over 15 years.   Yes, I tried estrogen and progesterone and my body arrived to have breast cancer.  I was fortunate that it was Stage zero, DCIS, non-invasive breast cancer caused by those two hormones.  I had a lumpectomy, gently done to aid in faster healing, 6 1/2 weeks of radiation and Tamoxifen was recommended.

I tried one pill of Tamoxifen, our happy estrogen site blocker, and was so overwhelmed with hot flashes that I could not tolerate it.

I tried many alternative drug therapies for hot flashes but due to the side effects I ended up with the large dose of Gabapentin (Neurontin/Gabapentin is derived from the amino acid, GABA, also used in skin care. GABA is Gamma-aminobutyric acid.)  Gingko biloba helps with the "brain fuzz" caused by GABA for me.

Check out ShopNBC and see if they have any moisture wicking sheets remaining at more than 50% off of what they are normally sold for.  ShopNBC offers other textiles for bedding that aid in moisture wicking, also.  One might have to research the uncommon offerings there in the bedding department.

Wool comforters are the very best for me.  Silk, no.  Ingeo created a dry heat but I don't need the heat.  Down, no, not for me.  It's too bad that wool comforters cost less than wool blankets.
A nice light weight wool blanket would be great.

2.  "Korean mink blankets" which I use as my bed toppers due to my degenerative disk disease and facets.  It seems to no longer matter so much where the blankets are manufactured as much as their quality.  So many come out of Asia, now, from various textile manufacturers to the manufacturing/sewing of the textiles that one has to shop well.

I often use a sheet that is moisture wicking below the blanket.  I have one with silver threads which aids in moisture wicking, keeping a cool bed and is anti-microbial.

I always buy sheets that are too big for my queen bed.  I mention below why tight fitting sheets can be a curse where bone can press too hard against skin due to sleeping on too hard of a surface.

I recommend
http://awwadone.com/store/ for the very best prices and an awesome variety of these blankets.  This shops prices beat eBay, Amazon and have the exact same blankets as the two most well known "Korean mink blanket" sites on the web.  Yes, the Solaron blankets are exactly the same as all other sites.  The Koyo blankets are top quality and the very best.
The shop also sells raschel plush, artist blankets, baby blankets, and signature blankets of the highest quality.  I have spent literally days studying the mink blanket arena.

No longer can we easily find Nano-silver mink blankets in a pattern which is appealing.
These moisture wick and are anti-microbial.

Mink blankets are best washed with a powder detergent dissolved first or as added to the wash by the newest and best of washers.  Once in the washer only allow a few agitations and spin.
For the rinsing cycles, again, a  few agitations and spin.  This must be at a luke warm temperature or below.  If the fibers start to mat it is due to the fiber literally starting to over heat and melt.  To dry: 2 mins. of lowest heat then air dry.  Another 2 mins. here and there with long sessions of no heat are best.  It is very easy to melt the fibers during the drying method.
Often it is good to take the blanket out of the dryer while still damp and hang it to finish drying.

Solaron will wash the best and last the longest but actually becomes a hard surface onto which to sleep.

These blankets function like the very best of foam toppers.  They do well to give lumbar support while, at the same time, do not cause pain to the hips if one is a side sleeper.  I tend to sleep on my back and my side.

(Hip pain or a burning sensation while in bed:  Lose those side seamed panties.  Seriously.
Panties with a single back seam are sold.  Those seams will dig in and enhance that burning sensation of the hips.   Do not sleep on a tight surface if you have hip pain.  Lose the concept of having a bottom sheet which is tight.  Just let it go.  It will just continue to give your hips grief as you are creating a harder surface onto which hip bones will be resting.  Try a Koyo mink or raschel plush blanket from Best Linen, AKA, Awwadone.  To note:  Only a few of the Koyo mink blankets are not imprinted.  Imprinted mink blankets create bumps onto which I sleep and it irritates my body.  The feeling of a deep wrinkle that won't leave is irritating onto which to sleep, IMO.

Best Linen will soon have a new site.  I totally appreciate the enlargements of their products.

3.  Skin care:  DIY at these sites which sell the very latest in topical technologies in skin care including the latest formulations of peptides, skin brighteners/lighteners, and their version of a base cream into which the ingredients can be put. :

http://www.platinumskincare.com/index.aspx Syncoll, Syntacks, Snap 8L (the latest argireline formulation which is enhanced from the original argireline that most skin care lines are still selling),
TCA peel, sells copper peptide products, GABA, alpha arbutin, and the major vitamins for the skin.
One cannot mess up adding any of this sites ingredients into their base cream.  Measurements are not a hassle here.  Recipes are not needed.

http://www.lotioncrafter.com/store/  This site sells Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (another great form of vitamin C) as well as many of the major ingredients.  One does need recipes or must measure amounts for the use of their ingredients. though. I am impressed with this sites selections.

http://skinactives.com/  This website also sells on eBay.  They have many of the latest ingredients but be careful with the wording of any emails.  Offense can be taken at the slightest questioning of the configurations of some of their products.  Still they are an awesome source at reasonable prices.  Best of all is their education of the ingredients which is offered via small, readable articles posted at their site.

Personally I avoid mineral oil, petrolatums, and, oddly, vitamin E.  I have found that skin care products where vitamin E is near the top of the list of ingredients.  For me, vitamin E will help protect and heal the skin but it also defeats the firming properties of vitamins A and C if there is too much of E in a formulation.  My skin will appear oily and my wrinkles will not be firmed, puffed up.

4.  I have Hepatitis C.  I moved to Texas but did not realize that this state is among the ten worst for medical care.  I now know why.  I moved to the Rio Grande Valley due to a low cost of living, near Mexico, small international airports are scattered about And the weather.  I am from Seattle, Washington.  I will be moving back to Seattle due to the medical care I know exists there and I discovered too late that Washington State is among the top ten for medical care.

I had no idea how hard it would be to receive proper pain management with consideration to my liver status.  I've spent many hours crying, in pain, that was unnecessary.  I'm  tired and sad.  I love my home but now must sell it and move back to Seattle.

Here in the RGV physicians over book, can leave you waiting for 2 hours, are not prepared for shared decision making and dealing with informed patients.  They are used to telling you what they will do not listening to what you need.  I've been prescribed medications that are contra-indicated for someone with stage 3 liver fibrosis.

I failed my first attempt at TX due to the side effects but would have passed as I had zero viral load at shot 5.

5.  Uru:  The best online game in which I've participated.  Due to the economy Cyan will be unable to bring our game back unless we can support them by purchasing games and encouraging anyone that can use their talents to do so.  Cyan is responsible for the Myst series, Riven, Uru and more.  I celebrate the employees of Cyan and hope that none are laid off due to the recent banking/economy crisis.  I wave and hug all my fellow players....Dusk

More later...I'm tired...  I know that I need to list more of the items sold at the beauty sites and specifically describe the problems with the physicians in the RGV and more.

Will I sleep well?  Probably not.  Hepatitis C + hot flashes + worry + sadness.   Without DVD's, TV, the internet I'd not have much of a life.  I can't go out much here due to pain.
Don't come to the RGV if you are dying or aging and have pain.
You'll probably die in more pain than necessary as the dying can become addicted to needed medications, too.  Just ask an RGV physician.
