I just read of another beating in Chicago, this time a 14 year old boy was chased and beaten with a pipe by three low lifes. When will this madness stop?

The question is what is wrong with the parents. I am a parent of grown children. I know that you can raise your children right, and sometimes they may make bad choices. We all have made bad choices at one time in our life. My major worry with my kinds were pregnancy, STD's, breaking curfew, those kinds of things. I never had to worry about my kids going out into the community killing other kids. My husband and I had a philosophy with our kids, "we love you, but we are not your friends. We are the Sargent at Arms in our home!" That philosophy worked in our home. Parents have got to stop backing their children when they are clearly wrong.

It's not just teens, per se, it's the parenting involved, high unemployment, drugs, crime and the gang problem here has been going on for decades. In summer, it's a literal and deadly war out on the streets, and believe me it can occur in any neighborhood with such violence it almost seems through the media the Chicagoans are impervious to such horrendous goings-on. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) daily on a 24/7 basis face extreme violence all around the city more so in low income/high impoverished areas. Often times, slumlords will prevail and and buildings are empty or taxes to high for generations of Chicagoans to pay, hence, oftentimes, these buildings are right there for the taking. It's sad. My heart goes out to all the families of Chicago children who have died this year by guns or extreme violence. We need less talk and more action to mitigate the tragedies taking place everyday. This is such a sad thing. When I went to school, the kids didn't seem as lost as they are now. No longer are so many of our youth respectful, of others.

One cannot blame poverty on this problem. I was the "warden" of the house, and I am glad I was.

Now my grandchildren are being held accountable for their actions, by me.

Many parents want to be friends with their kids. Well, who's in charge?

It takes teaching them respect, from a very early age.

It's not just teens, per se, it's the parenting involved or for that matter, no parental involvement. High unemployment, drugs, hardly any manufacturing jobs, major crime and the gang problem here has been prolific for decades. During the summertime, it's a literal and deadly war out on the streets and believe me it can occur in any neighborhood with such violence it almost seems through the media that Chicagoans are accustomed to such horrendous goings-on...WE ARE NOT. Cynical perhaps to all the rhetoric and promises made by B.S. politicians, yeah, I can understand that. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) experience on a 24/7 basis, extreme violence all around the city more so in low income/high impoverished areas (they act as counselors too). Traditionally, problems increase in certain neighborhoods where slumlords (their greed) let their buildings gutter down, these buildings become empty and it's a free for all for gang activity/dealing and/or taxes are so high for generations of Chicagoans to pay, hence, oftentimes, these buildings are right there for the taking for greedy developers. It's sad. My heart goes out to all the families of Chicago children who have died this year by guns or extreme violence. We need less talk and more action to mitigate the tragedies taking place everyday. SUPPORT CPD AND PARENTS AWAKE AND RISE UP, TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS. PLEASE. BE INVOLVED WITH THEIR SCHOOLING AND LIVES, KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THEM...THEY DESERVE THAT AT THE VERY LEAST. THIS IS AN AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL CITY WITH AS MUCH CIVIC PRIDE AS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. WORLD CLASS ENTERTAINMENTAND SPORTS TEAMS AWESOME UNIVERSITIES, what?... ABOUT 33 FORTUNE 500 COMPANIES ARE HERE AS WELL, I CAN GO ON AND ON AND THAT'S NO BULL. CHICAGO IS A GREAT CITY TO LIVE, WORK AND RAISE A FAMILY. EVERY CITY HAS THEIR PLIGHT AND BLEMISHES. BE FAIR MEDIA. I JUST FIND IT IRONIC THAT NOW SINCE OBAMA IS IN OFFICE THAT EVERYONE'S YAKKING ABOUT CHICAGO AND ITS POLITICS AND CRIME. s---E, WAKE UP. YOU HAD FOUR YEARS TO DO YOUR RESEARCH OR LEARN ABOUT IT DURING THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN. GEESH.. T'WASN'T A SECRET PEOPLE. (I am not CPD, just a citizen that knows they work especially hard for the public and safety of its citizens not too mention that our fire department is world class.) ON A LIGHTER NOTE, GO BEARS! GO HAWKS! (STILL LOVE MY YANKEES THOUGH! GO YANKS!!!!!! CONGRATS JETER!) peace ; )

It happens more often than the news will report it. I'm from Jacksonville, FL and graduated in 1996 and since then I've only seen kids get worse and worse, but not in a since of bad, thier just ignorant and stupid beyond thier years. It's like they're getting dumber faster as if by design and not coincidence. I blame the school system and child-like parenting skills for under-education. It should be as easy to go to college as it is to go to jail or play lotto or keep up with B-S... and if the signs aren't clear enough, then I don't know what else to say.

There needs to be more family involvement with these young kids today.

If the parents are there to be good role models and set the rules and boundaries, the teens would show more respect to others and also to themselves. The parents should also be more involved in their child's education. Education starts with the family at home, both learning about schoolwork and life lessons. If teens don't have good mentors or guidance, they won't know how to act or behave properly. (including respecting women)
