When We Take Life for Granted

We forget about how good we have it and the many things that
are of real importance, like having family, having good
friends, having fresh food to eat and clean water to drink,
having safe shelter, having a mate or that special person that gets
us, having a job, having money, having medical
coverage, having a car, having luxuries like heating and air
conditioning, having places to go and things to do, having
good health, having freedom, having eyes to see, arms to hold,
legs, feet and so on. What if it all got taken away?
Many people on this earth have nothing in comparison to many
of us. We sometimes think these things will always be there
and God would not let us fall into too much despair. We
forget how the gifts we receive are just that, gifts and they can
be taken away at any moment. It happens everyday , every
minute and many are born poor or unhealthy or in a bad
area of town or the world. Many lives are turned upside
down because of something they didn't deserve or
plan for, or something they couldn't have
seen coming (like chronic health problems, a car accident or
some other tragedy), and for some, if things don't get
better these everyday people can fall through the cracks. If
they have health problems, they can loose their jobs, their income,
their homes, their friends and their ability to get out and do
things at all. They can even loose there mate, if the
spouse can't deal with it.They can loose touch with
much of the world outside, because they can't
keep up with the super dogs anymore and eventually feel
crushed under the turning wheels of a world that seems hell bent on
competing for the top of the mountain and
forgetting everyone below.
We live in world that says, out loud - if not subliminally, we
should be happy no matter what, we we should be strong and
beautiful no matter what, we should be wealthy no matter what, we
should be competitive no matter what and so on and
sometimes in the process, we block out the the things
that matter most and the reasons for being grateful for what we
have, the reasons to be kind and neighborly to everyone,
the reasons to help those in need, the reasons why
its better to give than receive, the reasons why just
doing good and being good to others and treating others with
respect and compassion is so important to the mental
health of a society as a whole. Simply put, we forget how good we
have it and what it means to be humane. What will become of our
children, and children's children, as population expands into
the future ever more rapidly, if we keep taking life
and each other for granted, if we as a society continue to
become too proud, too arrogant, too greedy, too
shallow, too selfish, too stuck up, too mean or too cold
to those around us, and especially those who are less fortunate
than us? In the future how much of the world will they consider
just waste land for the billions of poor peasants to wallow
and suffer in, and how much of it will be walled off for the safety
of the few wealthy, proud and
beautiful? Isn't this already happening today, as we
see thousands of homeless people in the worlds richest country on
the streets, some living on the streets next to mansions,
where inside they drink thousand dollar bottles of wine and throw
lavish parties and throw out thousands of dollars of uneaten
food ? Is there someone pushing a shopping cart down your
street? Do you go out and do anything for others in need or do
you just take it all for granted? Do you even care?
God bless those who do for the poor, suffering and the needy, for
they truly understand what it means to be humane and what a loving
God wants us all to do.
My prayers go out to the men and women in the Armed Forces who
serve this country and around the world and their families who
make great sacrifices for our freedom everyday, including Local Law
Enforcement. Thank you all for your unselfish gifts,
everyday!
Notice the small child next to her guardian in this
picture........
Still fee like lobster tonight, while she is sleeping on
the curb?

I enjoy reading your post. Your Perspective in life is what I would like for everyone to realize too. There is so many things that are around the world that we are blinded to really focus on and take a look back to help the unfortunate. Individuals like us can help to begin a chain reaction and may hope and pray that everyone else will end up doing the same. I am glad to read about your concern and your worries. More people need to compassionate and understanding. It is a very tough world out there and all the material wealth that people have should realize that is not everlasting. Life is the most precious gift to have, but then again everyone is so wrapped up with their own lives that it is a selfish and greedy world that we live in. One day I pray that it will get better and for everyone to really appreciate their life and give and show love and care for everyone to family, friends, and strangers.

Hi, I would love to say thank you for posting your words here, I too at one time was homeless, when I was pregnant with my twin daughters. I didn't know where to turn. While I was in the shelter with my children, I heard them say that homelessness was a disease. Disgusted with this and arguing with them. How can you take an unfortunate happening and call it a disease. Some things are accidental. You don't take a car accident and say hey that is a disease do you? So I had researched why many people become homeless. I had a friend recently lose her job, due to too many family medical leaves. "Now we know that this is illegal for an employer to fire someone for that reason, but they do." She had no where to turn to. I called all the shelters in the area and they were full. I personally would have taken her and her children in until she found a new job, but I would have been in breach of contract and I too would have had to look for somewhere else to live. I didn't know what to do. So one day while on break all these things running through my mind I came up with a plan to try and help. I recently started a social network that will donate 30% of the proceeds to help buy homes for homeless families. I know it doesn't seem like a whole lot. I wanted to create something that everyone could enjoy, even homeless families. Give them something to look forward to and work for. I am still learning how to create something truly inspirational and hoping to help many families here in the United States. I am not saying that this site is going to happen over nite, but if you want to learn more about the project or see what I am doing, contact me through my blogs.
I truly want to say Thank you for your efforts here and talking about this. Maybe more people out there will see that things at times can not be helped, nor predicted. I also think that too many people judge others I myself am guilty of this, but I try my hardest not too.
