Will Claymates accept a gay Clay Aiken: How celebs fare after coming out

People

People

Not so shocking news: Clay Aiken is gay. More shocking news: he actually came out to People magazine. We’re not sure exactly what the demographic is of his steadfast fans, the Claymates, but hopefully they won’t bail out on him now that the new dad is a proclaimed homosexual.

"I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things,” says Clay of his decision to publicly acknowledge his sexuality. “I wasn't raised that way, and I'm not going to raise a child to do that."

As someone who is straight, I will never know what it’s like to have people judge me based on my sexual preference. What I do know is that when celebrities speak up about gay issues like Ellen, donate money to benefit gay rights like Brad and Angelina, or publicly display their gay relationship like Lindsay Lohan, it can act as a support system to other people who may be coming to terms with their own sexuality, and can hopefully open the minds of others who aren’t exposed to or don’t understand homosexuality.

We applaud Aiken for his bold move. We hope he follows in the path of Lance Bass, Cynthia Nixon, Rosie O'Donnell, Boy George, David Hyde Pierce, George Takei, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Ani DiFranco, Elton John, Melissa Etheridge, Rupert Everett, Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Lane, k.d. lang, Ian McKellen, George Michael, John Cameron Mitchell, John Waters, Mario Cantone, Alan Cumming, Rufus Wainwright, the cast of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and every other successful celebrity who made the incredible decision to be public with their sexuality, which really, isn't even any of our business.

Do you think Clay’s coming out was a good move? [People]

I give him credit for speaking out. But if he's gay, then why was he with a WOMAN and had a baby by her???? It doesn't make sense. But ok, he is what he is anyhow. Personally, I don't think anyone's sexual orientation is anyone else's business, no matter what I or anyone else may feel about the subject.

Well, obviously, it's got to be hard to admit that you are gay, so he is to be commended for his finally being honest with himself. I can't imagine living in shame in that manner.

On another note, I know this is crazy, but I didn't know David Hyde Pierce was gay!

Why all the fuss, didnt everyone know he was a homosexual already??

He is with a woman because man and man CAN NOT create a baby! I'm sure he has his sodomite buddy somewhere out of the lime light. Hard to come out? not anymore, his carree will sky rocket now.

and they make it our buisness when they "come out" on the cover of a mag. Born again,? wow I wonder what bible he reads? sodomity is a offence to God. because it's not the way man and woman were made.

Man and woman were made to fit together. This world is crazy!!

I don't think he needed to come out. People has suspected he was gay for years. And now he comes out like it's a surprise. I knew, because you can tell, and I think everyone else could too, so i don't know what all the fuss is about; there was no need to come out, everyone already knew he was gay anyway. Bottom line. LOL!

Tweet, I wonder what Bible you read that says you're allowed to decide who God saves and doesn't.

Why do Christians feel the need to tell everyone they're Christian? I'd much rather hear about someone being real in their personhood by announcing they're gay than hear about someone preaching how they live a fake life to conform to some judgmental garbage they only pretend to do for an hour on Sundays.

come on now honey! this is a new century! we must stop the hatred and bible spewing! christianity says they promote peace and love but they really missed the mark on understsnding cuz it seems all they think about is gay sex! contrary to belief, homosexuals are not just thinking about what kind of sex they have they try to live normal lives and worry about other things u know like the state of this country!
