You are a Tabernacle

user

There are few things more scrutinized, and either exploited or desecrated as the human body. The beautiful female body is worshipped. The imperfect body is rejected. Clothing defines us, while nakedness shames us. Fashion and cosmetics is one of the biggest industries as image is one of the most important values of our world. In an attempt to get away from all this, Biblical morality directs attention to inner qualities and the value of spiritual virtue. This kind of pluralism comes from Gnostic notions that the spiritual is good and the physical is bad. This leads to many problems and is inaccurate to what the Bible actually teaches.
The body is actually a tabernacle, or tent, in which the Spirit of God dwells. It is intended to be an object of beauty, as the tabernacle and the temples of God were. However, such beauty and honor is a trubute to the majesty of God, not the person. The body is not to be worshipped. Only the Creator of the body. The body is not shameful, as it is the creation and dwelling place of God. Imperfection is a reminder of the reality of our world and the need for God's grace. The body and the spirit of the person are equally valuable. It is important for all people to condider themselves in view of God's truth, and not the values and wisdom of the world.
