A growing trend: Drunk moms at the playground

Maybe it's just where I live, but I've noticed a trend among the mothers in my community. I'm not sure what has caused it, because I've certainly never encountered anything like this before. I've noticed lately alot of the mothers at several of my local playgrounds are drunk. I don't mean just enjoying a wine cooler at a picnic table; I mean reeking of beer and stumbling over simple words drunk. Example: just this week, I was with my son at a nearby park. This women comes staggering over  holding a near empty bottle and yelling at her kids. I would have been shocked, except for the fact that I have seen something like this happen about four times this month.
Now, I am not condemning drinking in anyway. I just believe that there is an appropriate time and place for it, and getting wasted in front of kids at a public playground is just....I don't really know what word I'm looking for, but it's not a good one. I don't know, maybe these moms are just depressed, or maybe they have some other deeper issues. Am I the only one seeing this happening, or has anybody else experienced anything like this as well?

This is sad to hear, but it might just be a growing trend. With the way the economy is going, we might see more of this type of behavior amongst most parents. My ex-parent is an alcoholic and I am glad she did not show up to the park drunk, she stayed home and was drunk there, when I was a kid.

I agree with Big Ron, the fact that the Mothers are drunk at the park, leaves open for a lot of bad thing to happen. Cause the Mothers are going to be to busy being drunk, they will forget to check on their kids.

    Have a good evening.

Public intoxication is against the law. I would call the police if I saw that. Hopefully, it would be traumatic enough to give these mothers the initiative to seek help. Plus, any mother that is drunk with their child present is being neglectful.
