Babble Best: Bottles

BEST OVERALL: The First Years BreastFlow Bottle

While you may have heard of First Years before, you may not be as familiar with their Breastflow Bottle before now. The BPA-free BreastFlow bottle provides babies with the closest imitation of an actual breast. Here are just a few of the reasons it took our top honor:

1) BPA-free status (just make sure you aren’t buying old stock that did have BPA).

2) Dual-core nipple – the Breastflow’s unique dual-core nipple consists of a soft outer layer and a harder interior tube, a design that requires babies latch on the same way they would at a breast utilizing both suction and compression (learn more about the nipple here).

3) Flow – by using suction and compression, babies have to work for and therefore control the flow of liquid unlike many bottles that often too easily and too quickly stream the liquid into the babies’ mouth.

4) Appeal variety – a wide range of moms who tested this bottle gave it high ratings for their babies – those who were switching back and forth between breast and bottle, those trying to get their exclusively breastfed babies to take a bottle for the first time, babies who struggled with acid-reflux or spitting up from eating too quickly, moms who couldn’t initially breastfeed their babies, but wanted them to have a similar experience until they could – moms of both formula-fed and breastfed babies alike were fans of the Breastflow..

5) Ease of use – despite the two-piece nipple, the Breastflow bottle was easy to clean and convenient to use (the cap even attaches to the bottom of the bottle to keep it from getting lost).

6) Affordable – at just over $4 a bottle, the Breastflow provides an exceptional product at a reasonable price.

Just over $4 a bottle is reasonable? Pretty pricey when you consider the amount of bottles that people buy. If I only needed one bottle, that would be affordable. However, I need about 10, so no thank you.
